Black housekeeper denied work because priest’s German shepherd Ceaser is ‘kinda racist’
The home of a Catholic priest was the last place LaShundra Allen ever would have expected to be denied work because of her skin colour, she said.
Allen, who is black, arrived with her white colleague the morning of May 3 for what was supposed to be her first day cleaning Reverend Jacek Kowal’s rectory at the Catholic Church of the Incarnation in Collierville, Tennessee.
The colleague from the cleaning company who accompanied her, Emily Weaver, was quitting and came along to introduce Allen as her replacement.
But the women wouldn’t get far. The secretary stopped them, Allen recounted, and said she would have to go ask Kowal if the new arrangement was OK.
The secretary soon informed them it was actually not OK – because of the priest’s “racist” dog.

Parents protest vulgar anti-LGBTQ priest appointed to teach pre-teens at Catholic school
Rev. Erik Richtsteig is supposed to become a new youth pastor working with kids ages four to 15 in Salt Lake City’s Catholic schools. But more than 150 parents have signed a petition opposing his appointment after discovering his anti-LGBTQ and misogynist social media posts.
According to New York Daily News:
“In a post on Facebook, the paper noted, the priest said that images shared by LGBTQ individuals in June (Pride month) looked ‘like a gnome vomited.’
He also would not accept any friend requests from people who had a rainbow filter over their picture.”
He has reportedly also followed Facebook pages with titles like, “Male feminists are p*ssies,” “Right wing extremist” and “Obama has to go.”

In the future, only the rich will be able to escape the unbearable heat from climate change. In Iraq, it’s already happening
At a time when European countries are enduring some of the highest temperatures ever recorded, and as extreme weather becomes more common, Baghdad offers a troubling glimpse into a future where only the wealthy are equipped to escape the effects of climate change.
The world wonders what's happened to America
What happens to a country that is an idea, when that idea turns ugly?
Since the collapse of the Berlin Wall, the United States has been the leader of the free world economically, militarily, but also -- as communism and fascism fell by the wayside -- as an idea.
They went too far in Iraq in 2003, got too greedy before 2008, and let Syria down in 2013. But still, the US' obsession with painstakingly transparent self-analysis, allocation of blame and rooting out failure, got it back on top. However much you hate it, the idea seemed to justify its existence.
But this has been a difficult month. Well, a difficult year. Actually, scratch that too: everything since November 2016 has been discombobulating. I recall watching American expats, Europeans, Lebanese aghast in Beirut when Donald Trump won. It seemed to them like the wheels were coming off civilization. But surely, they could not forever, as the idea of the United States was designed to be tamper-proof?
Magnum slammed for ad comparing eating ice cream to gay men being jailed
Magnum are facing criticism over their latest advert campaign.
The popular ice cream brand have received backlash after a new advert, which played on music streaming service Spotify in the UK, compared the “guilty pleasure” of eating an ice cream to gay people being imprisoned in countries with anti-LGBTQ laws.
“A hug for my boyfriend. That’s my guilty pleasure. Because in my country, just a simple hug with the man I love could send me to prison for more than 10 years,” says the voiceover in the controversial advert.
ARE YOUR PALM TREES HARBORING ROOF RATS?
There’s something inherently relaxing and beautiful about watching palms sway in the warm breeze. Palm trees grow well in Louisiana’s warm, humid climate as well, making them a seemingly perfect addition to your landscape.
Of course, humans aren’t the only ones with an eye for palm trees – other creatures love them too, but not necessarily for their aesthetics.
Roof rats, also known as fruit rats, love palms as a place to live. It’s possible that your lovely palm trees are actually harboring roof rats, and might really be encouraging vermin to invade your home.
What Are Roof Rats?
Call them what you want, roof rats, fruit rats, black rats, it all boils down to the same thing. These are the same rats that spread bubonic plague and fleas. They’ve been with humans for eons, and throughout that time, they’ve been less than ideal houseguests. Rats spread far more diseases than the frightening Black Death, though. Others include murine typhus, salmonella, rat-bite fever and leptospirosis to name only a few.
Where Do They Live?
Roof rats actually prefer to live in trees, particularly in palm trees...
Mario Lopez apologizes for 'ignorant' comments about parenting and gender identity
TV personality Mario Lopez has apologized for comments made during a recent podcast appearance in which he said it was "dangerous" for parents to allow their children to pick their gender identities at young ages.
"The comments I made were ignorant and insensitive, and I now have a deeper understanding of how hurtful they were," Lopez said in a statement to CNN. "I have been and always will be an ardent supporter of the LGBTQ community, and I am going to use this opportunity to better educate myself. Moving forward I will be more informed and thoughtful."
The former "Saved By the Bell" star made the remarks last month on a podcast hosted by conservative personality Candace Owens.
In the discussion, Owens brings up what she calls one of the "weird trends" of Hollywood parents allowing their children to pick their gender identity.
We need to stop telling people how to feel. We all have a right to an opinion and forcing ridiculous notions down sober people's throats isn't going to fix your children. We are supposed to guide our children into making the best decision not agree with it because it makes parenting easier. Geez, maybe he feels like a girl because Uncle Harry has been secretly diddling him. I wanted to be many things. Zero is the total that bled into my life. The more society makes people apologize for an opinion the more they will hurt us. This is all going to look ridiculous in the future when it blows in our faces. 31-Jul-2019
‘Parenting expert’ says grandparents should ask their grandchildren for consent before hugging them
Parenting expert Jane Evans says that grandparents should receive verbal consent from their grandchildren before giving physical affection, such as hugging or kissing.
Evans made the remarks during Wednesday's broadcast of British daytime show "This Morning."
What are the details?
Evans, who appeared on the show to speak with hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, said that grandparents asking consent to show physical affection can only benefit young children, encouraging them to "take control of their own bodies from a young age."
Reagan called President Nixon to slur Africans as ‘monkeys.’ Of course there are tapes.
It was October 1971, and the United Nations had just voted to recognize the People’s Republic of China.
Then-California Gov. Ronald Reagan was infuriated that delegations from Africa did not align themselves with the U.S. position — that the U.N. should recognize Taiwan as an independent state — and wanted to get President Richard Nixon on the phone. He was apparently disgusted after watching delegates from Tanzania celebrate the U.N. decision to support Chinese sovereignty over Taiwan.
“To see those, those monkeys from those African countries — damn them, they’re still uncomfortable wearing shoes!” Reagan said.
Nixon replied with a big laugh.
New Campaign Highlights Major Companies Backing Antigay Politicians
A new campaign wants corporations like AT&T and Amazon to stop giving money to anti-LGBTQ politicians. Until that happens, the organization suggests consumers stop putting dollars in those companies’ accounts.
The political arm for CREDO Mobile, a mobile virtual network directing revenue to progressive causes, launched a petition campaign today targeting AT&T, T-Mobile, Google, Amazon, Microsoft and Dell. Officials say those companies alone have donated more than $5 million to homophobic politicians, all while providing corporate sponsorship to Pride events and marketing to LGBTQ consumers.
"It is unacceptable for corporations to co-opt the pride flag in order to make a profit off the LGBTQ community while simultaneously giving millions to some of the most hateful, homophobic members of Congress,” said Campaign Manager Thaís Marques. of CREDO Action.
Alleged Capital One hacker went by alias 'erratic'
Federal authorities in Washington state said they caught the person who hacked into Capital One’s computers and made off with the personal information of more than 100 million people.
Paige A. Thompson, 33, aka “erratic” online, is charged with computer fraud and abuse after authorities said she took advantage of a misconfigured firewall to access the bank’s credit card customer data, the Department of Justice announced Monday.
It's not a hate crime for a woman to feel uncomfortable waxing male genitalia
Should a woman be forced to wax male genitalia?
The answer to that is clearly “no”, right? If a female beautician has only been trained to wax female genitalia and only wants to offer these services to women then that should be her prerogative. But, hang on a minute, what if the person who wants their intimate areas to be waxed is a woman with male genitalia? What happens then? A court in Canada has been trying to figure that out. British Columbia’s Human Rights Tribunal has been holding hearings on the issue after Jessica Yaniv, a transgender woman, filed 16 complaints against female estheticians, arguing that she was denied service because of her gender identity.
Research Shows High Prices Of Healthy Foods Contribute To Malnutrition Worldwide
First global examination of affordability of both healthy and unhealthy foods shows prices matter for diet and health outcomes
Poor diets are the now the leading risk factor for the global burden of disease, accounting for one-fifth of all deaths worldwide. While the causes of poor diets are complex, new research finds the affordability of more nutritious foods is an important factor.
A new study by researchers at the International Food Policy Research Institute (IFPRI) is the first to document that the affordability of both healthy and unhealthy foods varies significantly and systematically around the world. The study also suggests that these relative price differences help explain international differences in dietary patterns, child stunting and overweight prevalence among adults.

Texas Gov. Celebrates Signing Antigay Legislation With Chick-fil-A
Last month, Texas Gov. Greg Abbott signed what was dubbed the essentially anti-LGBTQ "Save Chick-fil-A" bill into law. If it weren’t enough that Abbott signed the bill over a month ago, late last week he thumbed his nose at LGBTQ people even more and participated in a TV ceremony celebrating the bill’s signing while he and his team were surrounded by Chick-fil-A food and beverages. He then tweeted the moment out to his supporters.
“No business should be discriminated against simply because its owners donate to a church, the Salvation Army, or other religious organization,” Abbott said.
“No business should lose a government contract because of their religious beliefs. The save Chick-fil-A legislation that I’m about to sign is a victory for religious freedom in Texas.”

Baseball Team's LGBTQ Pride Night Featured Chick-fil-A, Sean Spicer
The minor league Pawtucket Red Sox delivered a double header in bad taste Friday night, giving out free Chick-fil-A and having a former Trump administration official throw out the first pitch on Pride Night.
Sean Spicer, President Trump’s first press secretary, tossed the first pitch, according to The Boston Globe. Spicer appeared as a representative of the Independence Fund, a nonprofit that serves wounded veterans.
The former press secretary made no reference to Friday also being Pride Night at the stadium, but critics noticed.
“The PawSox are having Sean Spicer throw out the first pitch on Pride Night. What an insult to all their queer fans,” wrote Longreads sports columnist Britni de la Cretaz on Twitter.
