As “Hypercarnivores", Humans Were Apex Predators For 2 Million Years
While many modern humans opt for a vegetarian or vegan diet, new research suggests that our ancestors obtained the majority of their nutrition from meat, and only diversified their food intake to include more plants at the very end of the Stone Age.

World's largest meat supplier JBS shuts ALL of its US beef plants
The Department of Agriculture has asked other major meat processors to increase capacity and mitigate potential beef supply issues due to the country's reliance on JBS production lines.
All nine of the company's beef plants in the country have shut down as a result of the cyber attack, according to the United & Food and Commercial Workers, which represents employees at the plants. It is unclear when those plants will resume operations.
The company has two plants in Nebraska, and one each in Michigan, Wisconsin, Pennsylvania, Colorado, Utah, Texas and Arizona.
'We have cybersecurity plans in place to address these types of issues... the vast majority of our beef, pork, poultry and prepared foods plants will be operational tomorrow,' Andre Nogueira, JBS chief in the United States, said in a statement Tuesday.

Bacon may disappear in California as pig rules take effect
At the beginning of next year, California will begin enforcing an animal welfare proposition approved overwhelmingly by voters in 2018 that requires more space for breeding pigs, egg-laying chickens and veal calves. National veal and egg producers are optimistic they can meet the new standards, but only 4% of hog operations now comply with the new rules. Unless the courts intervene or the state temporarily allows non-compliant meat to be sold in the state, California will lose almost all of its pork supply, much of which comes from Iowa, and pork producers will face higher costs to regain a key market.

A Woman Called the Cops Because She Thought Store-Bought Meat Was a Penis
Earlier this week, an Akron, Ohio woman put a pot of beans on the stove to simmer, but instead of serving them to her family, she stood in her house, watching as officers from the Akron Police Department put on their gloves and separated what should've been her dinner into several large plastic bags.
According to the Akron Beacon Journal, Lamia Singfield bought a package of smoked turkey tails that day at a nearby Save A Lot supermarket. (Her receipt said they were smoked turkey tails but the label listed them as smoked pork tails—although that's not the problem). She was in the middle of a Facebook Live video and, after stopping to stir the beans, she realized that one piece of that seasoning meat didn't look right.

How to Safely Store Different Kinds of Meat—and Make It Last
Buying meat is often expensive, so when you do pick some up for a recipe, you don't want any to go to waste. In order to ensure it stays fresh, there are a lot of food safety factors to keep in mind. Store it safely in the refrigerator or freezer before you cook it, and you can keep your kitchen well-stocked for days, weeks, and even months to come.
The U.S. Food & Drug Administration (FDA) has specific recommended timeframes for storing different kinds of meat, from raw poultry and steaks to bacon and corned beef. It's divided into refrigeration and freezer guidelines, so you know exactly how long you can keep that ham you bought. We combined those parameters with storage tips from the Food & Wine Test Kitchen—read on for the full breakdown of how to store meat.

62,112 Pounds of Beef Recalled Nationwide for E. coli Contamination
The FDA reported this morning that Aurora Packing Company is recalling approximately 62,112 pounds of beef products for possible E. coli contamination. The products being recalled were packaged on April 19 and include brisket, ribs, and chuck, among other cuts of beef. These items were shipped nationwide for distribution and further processing.
The hazard was discovered by the USDA’s Food Safety and Inspection Service organization, during a random sample testing. So far there are no reports of adverse reactions from these products. However, this situation is considered a Class I recall with a high health risk, meaning “there is reasonable probability that the use of this product will cause serious, adverse health consequences or death.”

Jordan Peterson Says Meat Cured His Depression. Now His Daughter Will Tell You How It Healed Her Too — For A Fee.
Mikhaila Peterson eats beef three times a day. She fries or roasts it, adds some salt, and washes it down with sparkling water — and that’s it. No fruits or vegetables. Just meat.
It’s the “carnivore diet,” the latest food trend to sweep the internet, and the 26-year-old swears that it cured her depression and rheumatoid arthritis. Yes, she admits, it “sounds absolutely insane,” there is no research to back it up, and she isn’t qualified to give medical diagnoses. But now she’s offering Skype “consultations” about the diet for about $90 an hour, following in her famous dad’s financial footsteps.
