One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest (1975)
There is a threshold of high mentality professionals cannot consume or understand so they isolate, daze and shun the unwell from reality thinking it will make them better but they're just keeping them away from us. The insane asylum is the "soccer mom" equation is incorporated as rehabilitive juice. If you keep the child's mind busy life wont hurt it. Nurse Ratched is neither monster or killer. She represents the woman in charge who will do what it takes to chase the crazy out of these fuckers and get herself a promotion. She does her job better than any man or human. Her hate for men keeps her in check as long as she can control them. Louise Fletcher is etched in subtlety. She's discernible, rational and a doctor's prescription. Her murderous thoughts are a delirious read. She spends a short time in the film but her character wafts through every room, corridor and human being begging for a minute's joy. Jack daddy legend is in it to disrupt it and kill her perfect record. He is a man with ownership rights and a threat to her profession. He has no mental issues that would require him to be there except that he hates work and wants to coast in a nut house. He is chaos and destruction but not insane. He hates life but he can survive it. He will inhale only the convivial parts of life. Booze, parties, women and trouble. He pretends, he awakens, parades his heart with glee and makes a team of followers. Jack is there to free them of their haze and enlighten them with the cool parts of reality. But sadness breaks out and explosions erupt endangering their situation. Jack smiles, hates the world, speaks our language, slays our speech, breaks our hearts and is one of the funniest sarcastic mother fuckers of all time. Excellent across the board. 21-Sep-2020
Pandemic anxiety coupled with protester violence makes for a scary zombie flick. There is no delineation because the action speaks for itself. The use of modern tech to create a different outcome is brilliant, the zombies are bone crushers and the direction is tireless. The ending from nowhere different prevents greatness because the last missed a master stroke. 14-Sep-2020
Star 80 (1983)
The tragedy of beauty versus beast. The purpose of beauty is to inspire us. If it touches you, you are beautiful in return. It's that perfect thing that exists like a God smack to the earth. The men want to devour it, the women prefer to absorb it and forget it but the younglings want to marry it at first sight. The sculptor who attempts to shape it, before full bloom, will burn his hands on the coffin he molds around it to keep it safe. A woman will always wake up. Beauty belongs to the world not encapsulated by a man who thinks he's just as beautiful because he licensed it. Fosse snips from Citizen Kane and gives it the hutzpah the classic lacked. Fosse's mastery is beauty, movement, thrill and dash. Eric Roberts gets inside our heads and makes us understand that hot greasy ass motherfucking psycho crooked legged cowboys with great hair have feelings. Fosse resoundingly echos him. Mariel Hemingway is neither thunder or lightning. She is a cloud of beauty that doesn't need announcement. Mariel's innocence allows the tragedy to happen and unfold. It has an ending Tarantino wouldn't touch and the original footage is brutal, salacious and true. Absolutely psycho. 12-Sep-2020
Strange But True (2019)
Boy meets girl, prom virginity loss ensues, dream boy dies and, five years later, the girl is pregnant with his child. The drama is about the reveal and it rolls heavily towards it. There are flaws aplenty. I didn't understand why mama needed to go to the library to get information that seemed readily available on the internet and why they were hesitant to call 911 after evidence deemed it an emergency but the cliches are overwhelmed by mood, taste and bite. Blythe Danner is best actress support, Brian Cox succeeds in being someone else, Margaret Qualley emitted Emma Roberts realness plus hippie control, Allegra Fulton added some magic, Nick Robinson is a twink of the force and Kinnear smashed golden ass. The cast was great and the ending is all. 08-Sep-2020
Conversion therapy for bubble-raised souls. The neighbors smile when you don't and hammer shit in you, when you won't. If you don't belong, they break you til you do. I wanted to scream for the protagonist but HOA/Social Media bills were past due. The first pumped me up, the last deflated me a bit but the whole was encouraging. 23-Aug-2020
John Wick 3 (2019)
Even after siphoning pleasure from the first two I was hesitant to invest in a third. I expected more ugly pup murder vengeance but it was one of the best video games I ever played. Angelica Huston was unrecognizable but still biting. Halle Berry finally delivered dog munching kickass. The horses, the cycles, the players, the stunts, the work. It was exhilarating. It's creation negates all improbability. Daddy cool K represents our aggressions and their release. Flush. 17-Aug-2020
Alita: Battle Angel (2019)
As I drowned in amazement the thought of giving Pinocchio this treatment became intriguing...and then it was.
Alita is the child built from dreams of regret, facing a life with limited power in the casings of a girl. She is constantly hounded for parts, in competition, fluttering, fighting and tasting what a child's life has to offer. She'd rather be a woman.
Christoph Waltz is his own animation. His Gepetto flourishes with worry and celebration. Alita's need to grow up is his dissatisfaction and his burden. The doctor brandishes enormous tools protecting a future creation that matters too much.
Creative ideas constantly bounce, widening the eye and accepting the beauty of art.
The pandemic should determine if this is how future movies will look.
Wild One, The (1953)
Life protestors with a penchant for bling, bikes and young things invade suburbia with destruction. The cops are too tired and don't want to get involved, the neighborhood uprises in arms and their little girls arch (they too have things to protest.) Parents are losers, youth is life, old is death.
There are illusions of gang rape and rape.
The women are confidant they can slow one down.
Marlon Brando explodes into both sides of his jeans like the rebel who doth protest too much. He was the untamable man that wanted to be tamed. The epitome of fluidity and all fan desires thereof, he institutionalized the gay man mystique and cis man "rapey" acquiescence. He's an everyman. That Brando granted my celibacy a woody, especially in black and white, speaks of "legendary animal."

Invasion Of The Body Snatchers (1978)
Daddy "pod people" proficiency. I can't imagine a better cast to deliver a concrete, spooky conspiracy. It turns the brain on and our survival mode kicks in as the repetitive blankness coerces the free thinker to scream in frustration. 16-Jul-2020

Monkey Shines (1988)
A fit daddy mentally bound by matriarchy becomes paraplegic. He receives a horrified nurse, mother pseudo, a no nonsense trainer and a mentally enhanced monkey.
The art of training an animal lives in its soul. The monkey represents the current female to determine his life. The monkey is a frighteningly adorable beast.
George A. Romero packs it with Hitchcock simplicity and sensical horror. Each frame a joy to ponder.
Jason Beghe is an addictive force.
The mother/son spar sliced bluntly.

Ad Astra (2019)
Universal travel, planet saving and soaring daddy issues.
The director feeds us unique vistas and exhilarating action but makes us feel like we're riding a bullet train. It spins by, it's amazing, I'm glad I saw it but it didn't mean anything. It had no attachment to the story.
Pitt attacks like it's his story to tell. He's exhausted, full of gruff and self analyzation. It was a most personal rendition.
Tommy Lee is "grand" daddy to everything Pitt did. 22-Jun-2020
Miracle Worker, The (1962)
Wild child with disabilities gets reformed by teacher whose demons compel her to impart self reliance. The film's effectiveness relies on protagonist nerve and muscle. Duke and Bancroft, not only slap it, punch it and break it they receive it, just as well. The psychology was that a child that inflicts pain must undergo it to better understand their crime. All the parental rules we dethroned, helped erect the special intelligence of an unidentified child. At end of story, the combatants celebrate the characters and, I hope, each other for a job well-done.
Chosen Ones, The (2015)
Conning underage girls into sex trafficking by boys/men realizing the fairy tale expectations that mothers inculcate. The subject is severe but the director does not exploit it. He keeps it creative with unseen cuts and human sounds that make the heart race. The heroes are also victims of an establishment that will never recognize a woman's purpose and therefore are powerless to do anything but abet the enemy or become one. Real and disturbing. 20-May-2020
Humanoids From The Deep (1980)
Cis sea monsters killing dogs, children and men so they can rape the women. It's pure schlock, WTF and astounding they pulled it off. I was less hesitant to watch because it was helmed by a woman. A woman, Barbara Peeters, would never exploit it. She handles her task, dons a penis cap for the shots and switches to thinking emotion about circumstances. She navigated like a pro. The fight scenes turned out hilarious but the racism, kills and rapes were sharp. All sexes, breeds and races shared the heroism.
