Mom Who Says Masks Are Child Abuse Throws Her Kid a 250-Person Homecoming Party

In any other year, a glittering homecoming dance in McDonough, Georgia, wouldn’t be controversial.

But during the raging coronavirus pandemic, from which at least 257,072 Americans have died, Ola High School had no plans to host a mass gathering of singing and sweating teenagers. So parents in the town about 35 miles south of Atlanta did it themselves, with few precautions, on Nov. 14.

“It’s my daughter’s senior year, so I hosted a dance,” one parent, Beth Knight, told The Daily Beast over Facebook messenger. “It was terrific.”

“We sold over 300 tickets, but only about 250 kids actually showed up because they were warned by teachers and coaches that they should not attend because of the virus,” Knight added. “The kids who came had fun.”

CDC urges Americans against traveling for Thanksgiving as coronavirus outbreak worsens

Dr. Henry Walke, the CDC’s Covid-19 incident manager, said there is “no more important time than now for each and every American to redouble our efforts to watch our distance, wash our hands and, most importantly, wear a mask.”

“CDC is recommending against travel during the Thanksgiving period,” he said. “For Americans who decide to travel, CDC recommends doing so as safely as possible by following the same recommendations for everyday living.”

Walke added that the CDC is concerned “about the transportation hubs.” He said he’s worried people won’t be able to maintain social distancing while waiting in line, for example, to board buses and planes.

Stylist claims J.Lo, Jessica Alba, Katherine Heigl are worst celebs to work with

A former Hollywood stylist is dishing the dirt on her TikTok page, taking bad celebrity behavior to task and spilling the T on the worst stars to work with, including Marisa Tomei, Jessica Alba and Jennifer Lopez.

“If 2020 was a career, it would be Katherine Heigl. Friends of mine who have worked on set with her and photoshoots have told me that she is extremely difficult and always mad.”

As for Alba,...

“She loves to rub hummus on her dress...

“Pitch Perfect” star Alexis Knapp rated a meager 1/10.

Hate crimes against perceived coronavirus carriers spike in NYC

The city has coronavirus hate-crime fever, NYPD data shows.

Crime stats released Thursday show a spike in attacks against perceived carriers of the COVID-19 bug.

The data shows there have been 23 hate crimes against victim’s whose protected category is classified as “other” so far this year — a 475-percent increase from the 4 reported over the same period last year.

The crimes are categorized that way even though a majority of victims are Asian, officials said.

“Recent Coronavirus-related incidents fall under the anti-other category as there are two motivating factors behind these crimes,” the accompanying statement said. “The victim’s race (anti-Asian) and the perception that they have the Coronavirus (anti-disability).”

Teacher and ‘LGBT ally’ loves her boyfriend but is ‘hesitant’ to buy a house with him because he ‘hates gay people’

The woman from Illinois wrote to the Santa Rosa’s Press Gazette’s ‘Dear Abby’ column to explain her dilemma.

She said she had previously been in an abusive relationship, but broke it off 14 years ago and stayed single to raise her “small son to adulthood”.

She finally found someone she had “strong feelings” for, and who felt the same about her, around seven months ago.

The woman wrote: “My feelings for my boyfriend are strong, and it’s mutual. He is giving, kind, caring, hardworking and protective. We are very much in love.

Costco Will No Longer Let Hoarders Return Coronavirus Supplies

Last weekend, the New York Times wrote a piece about Matt and Noah Colvin, the Tennessee brothers who drove 1,300 miles across two states to buy thousands of bottles of hand sanitizer and thousands of packages of antibacterial wipes so they could resell them online at unconscionably inflated price points. (Matt listed those $1 bottles of Purell on Amazon for anywhere between $8 to $70 each.)

Amazon ultimately yanked Colvin's listings, citing the company's policy against price-gouging. And on Saturday afternoon, just hours after the Times' piece went live—and subsequently, viral—the Tennessee attorney general's office sent its own investigators to Matt Colvin's house to deliver a cease-and-desist letter, reminding him of the state's own law that prevents state residents from charging "unreasonable prices for essential goods and services [...] in direct response to a disaster." Before the weekend was over, Colvin was the subject of a state investigation, he'd been permanently banned from eBay, and the storage company where he kept his ultra-selfish hoard told him that he couldn't rent from them anymore. He was also essentially forced to donate all of the hand sanitizer and antibacterial wipes that he'd bought, with a local church collecting the bulk of it, and the state attorney general's office taking the rest of it. All of the products will be redistributed to people who will actually use them, not profit from them.

Hobby Lobby CEO tells employees to come to work because his wife heard words from God

David Green, the billionaire CEO of Hobby Lobby, has determined that his employees – 43,000-plus people – shall continue showing up to work despite the upheaval caused by the coronavirus and social distancing orders. He asserts that they all will be fine because his wife, Barbara, received a message from God that they interpret as much.

Green describes how Barbara had a divine encounter that should qualm any concern for their family – and Hobby Lobby. “In her quiet prayer time this past week, the Lord put on Barbara’s heart three profound words to remind us that He’s in control. Guide, Guard, and Groom.”

Elderly Woman ‘In Tears’ At Empty Supermarket Highlights Panic Buying Crisis

Countries around the world have witnessed unprecedented panic buying at supermarkets and pharmacies due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Aisles have been stripped bare every day as many try to get enough food to last them through a two week self-isolation.

However, there have been some people who have been greedier than others.

As a result, loads of shoppers have been left to get whatever is left and, in some cases, leave nearly empty handed with no idea how they'll get their groceries.

That was highlighted in a heartbreaking picture of an elderly woman in Australia standing in front of cleared out shelves that used to hold canned foods.

Channel 9's Seb Costello shared the picture on social media of the devastating reality that is facing many people across Australia and the world.

He reported the woman was left in tears at the bare aisles.

The People Ignoring Social Distancing

As the coronavirus pandemic has spread in the United States, public-health experts have lately been urging people—especially young people, many of whom may not show symptoms, and spread the virus unknowingly—to limit their physical contacts with others, but Andrew described a raucous scene that seems out of step with this moment of worldwide panic and caution. “They knew what was going on and they didn’t care—they were going to keep hugging and high-fiving,” he said. “Personally, I probably was in contact with, like, a thousand people over Friday and Saturday night, and I can only wash my hands so many times.” (Andrew asked to have his last name and the name of his workplace omitted from this article, so that he wouldn’t suffer any negative repercussions.)

Americans are hitting bars and bragging about not social distancing

The nation's top infectious disease researchers have repeatedly warned, if not begged, Americans to practice social distancing as the contagious coronavirus spreads through the population.

That's because, due to a woeful lack of testing in the nation, no one knows how many Americans are infected — and the resulting respiratory disease (COVID-19) is 10 times more lethal than the flu. Sunday morning, Marc Lipsitch, an infectious disease epidemiologist at Harvard University, emphasized this point, noting that the true number of infections is certainly "much higher" than confirmed cases.

But, though some folks are social distancing, many still clearly aren't. Some are even actively bragging about not doing it. This weekend, journalists and others reported that bars across the nation were packed in Boston, Chicago, Nashville, and New York City.

Religious right groups are masquerading as churches to hide how they spend their money

Increasingly, religious right organizations that don’t resemble a church in any sense are declaring themselves to be just that. The reasoning is simple: by doing so, they no longer have to file publicly accessible documents detailing how they spend their money and how much they pay their leaders.

According to Ministry Watch, an independent group that monitors Christian charities, “more tax-exempt organizations that clearly are not churches are claiming the church exception. These organizations are using this exception to keep not only the government, but also donors, from seeing how their money is being spent.”

Teacher Threatens To Leave Kids Out Of Class Party If They Don’t Bring Food

Mom Takaria Scott posted the letter she received and it struck a nerve with most who read it. Her daughter was having a Christmas party at her school and was requested to bring chips or cheese balls. It seemed innocent enough until she kept reading and saw a line circled with a highlighter stating that “My philosophy is: if they don’t bring anything they don’t eat anything.”

‘Parenting expert’ says grandparents should ask their grandchildren for consent before hugging them

Parenting expert Jane Evans says that grandparents should receive verbal consent from their grandchildren before giving physical affection, such as hugging or kissing.

Evans made the remarks during Wednesday's broadcast of British daytime show "This Morning."

What are the details?

Evans, who appeared on the show to speak with hosts Ruth Langsford and Eamonn Holmes, said that grandparents asking consent to show physical affection can only benefit young children, encouraging them to "take control of their own bodies from a young age."

Pennsylvania school district tells parents to pay their lunch debt, or their kids will go into foster care

The Wyoming Valley West School District in Pennsylvania sent out hundreds of letters this week telling parents who had lunch debt to pay or their children could go into foster care.

The letter, which was reviewed by CNN, told parents that there have been "multiple letters sent home with your child" and that no payments had been made.

"Your child has been sent to school every day without money and without a breakfast and/or lunch," the letter read. It also said failure to provide children with food could result in parents being sent to Dependency Court.

"If you are taken to Dependency court, the result may be your child being removed from your home and placed in foster care," the letter read.
