Massachusetts couple say they are 'traumatized' after being falsely accused of stealing fruit...

A black family has claimed they were racially profiled and falsely accused of stealing while on a Labor Day trip to an apple picking farm.

In a blog post which has gone viral, Reverend Manikka Bowman and Jeff Myers claimed that staff at Connors Farm in Danvers, Massachusetts, accused them of having 'concealed fruit' in their stroller and called the police.

The couple had been on an apple picking trip with their seven-year-old daughter and 18-month-old son when the mood 'dramatically changed.'

Peach recall expanding over possible salmonella contamination after 78 sickened in 12 states

A peach recall has expanded to include loose peaches and peach products after 78 people were sickened in 12 states by salmonella poisoning linked to the fruit, the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention said Thursday.

Of the 78 reported cases of illness traced back to the potentially tainted fruit between June 29 and Aug. 3, 23 victims were hospitalized, the CDC reported. No deaths have been reported. Victims ranged in age from one to 92 years old.

The agency is warning that more salmonella poisonings are possible. "Illnesses might not yet be reported due to the time it takes between when a person becomes ill and when the illness is reported. This takes an average of 2 to 4 weeks," the CDC said.

"Epidemiologic evidence indicates that peaches are the likely source of this outbreak."

Nectarines, peaches, plums recalled over possible listeria contamination

Thousands of pieces of fruit have been recalled in 18 states because they may be contaminated with the harmful bacteria listeria, the Food and Drug Administration announced. New York-based Jac. Vandenberg, Inc. issued the recall for some of its nectarines, peaches and plums.

The company found listeria monocytogenes on some finished products through routine sampling, the FDA said. No illnesses have been reported.

The bacteria "can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people, and others with weakened immune systems," the FDA said in its announcement. A listeria infection can cause miscarriages and stillbirths in pregnant women, according to the agency.
