Substance, The (2024)

Every time Quaid did anything on screen I balked. He was an obnoxious asshole providing disgusting chews and bringing the vibe down. All men window dressed and were not awarded the opportunity to become nothing more than buffoons. The guy with the hairy ass was an exception. The ladies were put through hell but the performances kept them alive. The writing would have succeeded further if it wasn't so questionable. How did she pay for The Substance, what happened to the maid, why didn't she have friends or family, why did she tell the neighbor that the original had moved out but still comes and goes every other week, how could she run when she couldn't walk and why did no one realize it was a mask? I saw Kubrick (the halls and bathroom,) Rosemary's baby (claustrophobic spaces,) and Brian De Palma (the Carrie finale.) The director exhibited art but yucked up the ending. It went too far and became unbearable. There is only so much red paint we can take. It accomplished uniqueness and conversation. 10-Oct-2025
I Spit On Your Grave (1978)

It would be exploitation if the rape weren't the catalyst to the main's empowerment. Woman alone stays in the country where blue collar men with too much work, time, ugly women and no manners abound. City girl is a writer who handles well, is lonely, trusting and helpless. Among the victimizers is a challenged man that is susceptible to gang mentality and betrayal. The rape had elements of realism and buffoonery. The men are cartoonish during it, pulling faces and acting like they've never fucked anything before. Maybe, it was to soften audience blow. Our lady was courageous on and off camera. The comeback is not as powerful because the violence was of the Kool-Aid variety. They cut the penis dismemerment scene! Boo. 4K adds the clarity that time fixed. Scenes sparkle with beauty and the protagonist is a Charlie's Angel vigilante. 16-May-2023
Mandy (2018)

An artful relentless mess in which Lord Nicholas takes on religion and splits his asshole kicking its butt. 12-Oct-2022
Texas Chainsaw 3D (2013)

Apt sequel that glamorizes its predecessor and makes Leatherface a hero. It's a chill, spook and gay spectacular. 06-Mar-2022
Texas Chainsaw Massacre (2022)

Scripting black people to complain about cops and confederate flags is not thoughtful. Killing all the black actors anyway, is not giving a shit. Making me confused about female sexuality is a useless gay time thing. Leatherface is nothing without family dependability. He was the icing on the family cake. A family that celebrated meat, farming and death. Icing without cake is a blob. 22-Feb-2022
House That Jack Built, The (2018)

A psychologically misconstrued examination of a serial killer. If Lars had written a legible mental frame for Matt Dillon's psycho, the actor would have been highly praised. The script is basic, ignorant and fucked the space out. Von Trier lingers over every kill like it's a piece of art but all is brutal insanity. The length of the movie exhausts and the ending is an early exit regret. 12-Oct-2020
Addams Family, The (2019)

Morticia was lacking the sultriness Gomez used to devour. Gomez was lacking the passion he exhibited at the most ludicrous and divine things. Wednesday could have used a little less rich girl in her voice and a lot more bitch. Uncle Fester was destroyed. Bette Midler seemed like the only one to have watched an episode of the tv series and gave Grandmama her unique flair. The family is constantly trying to kill or destroy each other, ad nauseam. Somebody missed the point of The Addams Family and what they constituted. They were us fighting for our place in the world from the imagination of a mad man. The writers need to apologize to the artists for making them create the angriest animated film ever. Dude, that's coming from me. 01-Oct-2020
Hunt, The (2020)

Liberal climate changers go on a bloody hunt for hillbilly bloggers. The politics are appalling, the cameos are uplifting and the action is hilariously glorious. Betty Gilpin is the wrong southern bitch to mess with. The actress maintains her anger, her snit and her kickassery. The villain kicks it with the same ferocity for the ultimate fight.
(The hair replacements were termination worthy.) 26-Sep-2020
Devil All The Time, The (2020)

The film capitalizes on the idea that a belief in God compels naivete, lechery, sexual compulsion, loss and unforgiving violence. I'm good with that but where is the soul worth saving? Films are now made out of sap or coal. Everybody loves a bitch but they're quick to die in a bubble bath of flames. That's sad. Tom Holland never does wrong and his accent is acceptable, Bill Skarsgard was not allowed to stretch his beautiful bug-eyed wings, Sebastian is now a senior fuckable memory, Harry Melling scared the It out of me and Robert Pattinson head blocked me. His accent and sound was so confusing that I pondered looking up his real voice on Youtube. Different is not necessarily great. Bad Batman villain auditions are in Building 69, building 2 is for serious actors. The women are a form for destruction. God uses them as tools to test the depths of man. It is a well-done play with absolutely no value to offer its audience. 18-Sep-2020
Babysitter, The: Killer Queen (2020)

Everything remembered is welcome, the leap from kid to tween is maternally sweet but the whole is missing something. A foot in reality, a step forward and a babysitter. That's what I missed. 17-Sep-2020
Babysitter, The (2017)

Puberty boy realizes his carnal urge for queen sex is life-preserving and destructive. Samara Weaving serves Harley Quinn gusto, Robbie Amell is humdinger stripper/killer/rapist, Bella Thorne tears it like a beauty pageant winner, Hana Mae Lee slices and dices and the babies are sweet. The irrational violence is its humor and its perverted violence is its soul. The kills may be cannon but revenge is sweet. 16-Sep-2020
Platform, The (2020)

It makes sense in the confines of the story but it's pretty preposterous without a big world picture. It's vile, claustrophobic and exhausting. 30-Mar-2020
Apostle (2018)

Infiltrating a religious sect to save a sibling. The premise barely sustains itself and Dan Stevens' idea of macho heroism is to grunt like a gorilla and squawk like a duck. He is so inspired to erase his Downton starter that what he erects is stiff overcompensation. The only thing the film gets right is torture and a weirdly coincidental female tree. 11-Mar-2020
Once Upon A Time... In Hollywood (2019)

I no longer squirt for QT unhinged idiosyncrasies. Talky, boring and pointless. 23-Feb-2020
Hellboy (2019)

Hellish Arthurian legend. It couldn't hit the masses because it keeps its characters and premise grotesque and blood-soaked. David Harbour conveys the title monster but his unappealing design lends him no superhero charisma. Cult status may grant its futility and relentlessness, crap fun. 18-Dec-2019
