Florida dad, 42, is fighting for life after his son ignored his parents' advice and went out with friends without a mask and infected his whole family with COVID-19

A Florida father is fighting for his life after contracting coronavirus from his son, who tested positive after ignoring his parents' advice to stay home and not gather with friends.

John Place, from Plantation, is currently in the intensive care unit at Westside Regional Medical Center where he was put on a ventilator for more than two weeks.

The 42-year-old and his family all tested positive for COVID-19 last month after his 21-year-old son went out with friends one night and unknowingly brought the respiratory virus back to their home.

Burger King workers stage strike after trans co-worker dies while working with COVID-19 symptoms

Staffers at the Santa Monica fast food restaurant retaliated after Angela Martinez Gómez died after being reportedly made to work a week even while displaying symptoms. Picketers, as well as the complaint, claimed that the company did not provide staff with protective gear.

One manager at the branch at 1919 Pico Boulevard allegedly blamed the death of Gómez, 42, of Oaxaca, Mexico, on hormone injections, KTLA5 reported.

Managers made Gómez carry on working for a week even while she spluttered, took frequent bathroom breaks and was visibly ill, the complaint said, before leaving her June 26 shift early.

Fire Island Parties, Packed With Gay Revelers, Spark Outrage and Worry

Fire Island is under fire for violating social distancing guidelines over the July 4 weekend.

Clips and images of hundreds of maskless, shirtless partygoers packed on beaches and in private homes circulated on social media through influencers like journalist Chris Weidner. The posts sparked backlash and calls for more action from law enforcement.

Why People Are Still Cruising for Sex During the Pandemic

Alan stopped cruising for sex at public parks in Southern California for a month after the COVID-19 lockdowns began on March 19th, but has since been twice. As social distancing recommendations continue, he believes it’s naïve to think that guys will just stop having sex in parks altogether. “We have animal instincts, and we have a right to indulge in our desires,” Alan, whose name has been changed for privacy reasons, explained to VICE through Squirt, a website known for its cruising listings. "Sex is the main reason why I live life right now. If I didn’t have this outlet, I don’t think I’d be around much longer,” he continued.

Passenger who squeezed flight attendant’s butt & called him “gay boy” gets sent to prison

An unruly passenger was just sentenced to six months in prison for the sexual assault of a male flight attendant.

The passenger, Gavin Capps, was flying with EasyJet from Manchester, U.K., to Iceland for work this past January, when he attacked the flight attendant.

Capps had three beers on the flight and went to the front of the plane to get more, but he was sent back and told to wait for the in-flight service. When the duty-free trolley came down the aisle, Capps took 400 cigarettes from it and hid them under his seat.

Flight attendants warned him to stop causing trouble, but then he attacked.

One in three gay men feel unsafe at home during coronavirus

Almost a third of gay and bisexual men report feeling vulnerable at home during the new coronavirus pandemic, with Brazilians particularly concerned, a global survey found on Tuesday, highlighting its wider mental health impacts.

According to research conducted by the U.S.-based gay social network Hornet for the Thomson Reuters Foundation, 30% of almost 3,500 respondents, which included transgender men, said they felt physically or emotionally unsafe in their own homes.

"Think of how it feels to be 21 years old and living with a family that is unsupportive and constantly haranguing you about marrying a woman," said Alex Garner, senior health innovation strategist at Hornet.

The exodus of the wealthy from cities reveals the problems with individualism

New York’s gilded Upper East Side has been rendered a ghost town. The tourists are at home; the shops are shuttered, with their shelves bereft. Many of its residents, meanwhile, are as far away from the new center of a global pandemic as their wealth can take them—in the country, by the shore, on a hilltop, virtually anywhere else.

It’s the same story all over the world: The wealthy are experiencing coronavirus differently. Some have gone to their second or third homes or to visit family members in more remote locations. (In the interests of full transparency, I have spent the past two weeks staying with my mother at her home in rural Connecticut.) Others have paid thousands for short-term rentals: In France and the UK, sleepy country towns are overrun with weekenders hunkering down for the long haul, while entire hotels in Ireland have been bought out by families fleeing cities. In the US, Airbnb saw year-on-year revenue in rural areas increased by $280 million in March 2020, or almost 30%, while revenue in urban areas fell by $75 million, according to data from AirDNA. In the same period, bookings in Manhattan and New Jersey fell by 66%, while bookings in some Cape Cod towns have soared by as much as 600%.

Commentators widely agree that this is selfish, unfair, and in some cases actively dangerous. Writing in the Atlantic, travel journalist Nathan Thornburgh warns prospective emigrants that by leaving now, “you are nakedly prioritizing your comfort and peace of mind over the physical health of others.” Even tourism officials have asked would-be visitors to stay home: “This is something I thought I’d never have to say throughout my tourism career, but please stay home at this time,” Carol Chaplin, CEO of the Lake Tahoe Visitors Authority, said in a press release.

LGBT+ ER nurse begs gay men to stop going out and hooking up

An LGBT+ ER nurse has begged gay men to stop going out and bragging about it on social media and said they should protect themselves and others from coronavirus.

While many around the world are following government advice to stay at home and avoid unnecessary socialising, others are ignoring the rules.

If they catch COVID-19 they may get seriously sick themselves – even young people are ending up in hospital. But even more importantly, they will inevitably spread the coronavirus to more people who may be vulnerable and could die.

Meanwhile, others responded to the ER nurse, saying people are still hooking up on apps like Grindr and having sex parties. Because people during sex swap saliva, semen and sweat, it is high risk for passing on coronavirus.

Idris Elba dispels ‘weird myth’ that black people are immune to coronavirus

Actor Idris Elba went live on Twitter to offer updates on his well-being and dispel a “weird myth” he’s noticed since revealing he tested positive for the coronavirus.

“Something that’s sort of scaring me when I read the comments and see some of the reactions is: My people — black people, black people — please, please understand that coronavirus ... you can get it, all right?” he said in the first of two lengthy video chats conducted Tuesday afternoon. “There are so many stupid, ridiculous conspiracy theories about black people not being able to get it. That’s dumb, stupid.

“That is the quickest way to get more black people killed. And I’m talking about the whole world. Wherever we are, please understand that you can get it. ... Just know you have to be as vigilant as every other race. This disease does not discriminate. ... As a black person who has contracted the virus, it needs to be said.”

Waka Flocka Flame Says the Coronavirus is 'Fake' and 'Minorities Can't Catch It'

Waka Flocka Flame isn't sweating the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, because he firmly believes minorities can't catch it. In an interview on Real 92.3 LA, Waka talked about his marriage with Tammy Rivera before declaring himself and countless others potentially immune to the virus, despite having no evidence to support that claim.

"It's fake... Minorities can't catch it," he said at the 11:40 mark of the interview when asked if he was worried about it at all. "Name one though," he said when challenged on that comment. "We all descended from the same persons. Now, did we catch it? It hit the people passing through our airport [Atlanta], it ain't touch them soulful folks." He didn't explain himself too much further, or why he believes that he and other minorities are safe, but the conversation quickly moved on after.

LGBTQ people are more vulnerable to coronavirus for three reasons

On 11 March, more than 100 LGBTQ organisations released a joint open letter to healthcare providers and mainstream media outlets to make them aware that queer people are at greater risk of contracting the coronavirus.

Dr. Scout, Deputy Director for the National LGBT Cancer Network, states: “As the spread of the novel coronavirus a.k.a. COVID-19 increases, many LGBTQ+ people are understandably concerned about how this virus may affect us and our communities.

“The undersigned want to remind all parties handling COVID-19 surveillance, response, treatment, and media coverage that LGBTQ+ communities are among those who are particularly vulnerable to the negative health effects of this virus.”

The letter continues to say that LGBTQ people are vulnerable because of three specific factors.

Gays Must Stop Cheek-Kissing During the Coronavirus Outbreak

The French call it "la bise." For many gay men, it is a customary greeting at Sunday brunch or any other communal gathering: cheek-kissing, where one or both sides of the face receive a smooch from a friend.

However, such a gesture could help spread the outbreak of COVID-19 (or coronavirus disease), say world health officials, who are cautioning against cheek-kissing, hand-shaking, and high-fives.
