LGBTQ+ Senator Proposes Ban on 'Religious Indoctrination' of Kids
“There is a well-documented history of indoctrination and sexual abuse perpetrated by religious leaders and clergy people upon children,” according to the amendment. “Abusers within churches and other religious institutions often use events like church or youth-group-sponsored camps and retreats to earn children’s trust and gain unsupervised access to such children in order to commit such abuse.”

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot: I'm only granting one-on-one interviews to journalists of color
Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced Wednesday that she will grant one-on-one interviews to mark the two-year anniversary of her inauguration solely to journalists of color, saying she has been struck by the “overwhelmingly” white press corps in Chicago.
“I ran to break up the status quo that was failing so many,” Lightfoot, who is Black, tweeted, also issuing a detailed letter to City Hall reporters on her decision. “That isn’t just in City Hall. It’s a shame that in 2021, the City Hall press corps is overwhelmingly White in a city where more than half of the city identifies as Black, Latino, AAPI or Native American.”
While the move isn’t unprecedented in recent years, it drew fierce scrutiny among the city’s press corps and beyond with members of the media quickly taking Lightfoot to task for her decision.

Black Lives Matter co-founder Patrisse Cullors resigns amid controversy
The embattled co-founder of Black Lives Matter announced on Thursday that she’s resigning as executive director amid criticism over her lavish lifestyle.
But her resignation comes amid controversy over the group’s finances and Cullors’ personal wealth — including an alleged real-estate buying spree in which she snagged four high-end homes for $3.2 million in the US, according to property records reported last month.
The foundation said it ended 2020 with a balance of more than $60 million, after spending nearly a quarter of its assets on operating expenses, grants to Black-led organizations and other charitable giving.
Critics of the foundation contend more of that money should have gone to the families of Black victims of police brutality who have been unable to access the resources needed to deal with their trauma and loss.

New York City To Fund Abortions For Those From Other States & It's A Historic First
There's been a lot of disturbing news about states levying heavy restrictions on abortions, with some even issuing bans as early as six weeks into a pregnancy. In all, nine states have effectively banned abortions through the passage of bills, with Alabama's being the worst of all. But, there is some good news from the state of New York, which has stepped up on this year's all-out attack on a woman's right to choose. New York City is becoming the first to fund abortions for those from other states and it's a historic step in the right direction.
The city has allocated $250,000 in the 2020 New York City budget for funding to the New York Abortion Access Fund (NYAAF), according to the New York Times. The funding would allow about 500 women who would otherwise not be able to afford abortion services, either through lack of insurance or medicare, to receive one.
