'Home Improvement' Actor Zachery Ty Bryan Arrested in Oregon

Zachery Ty Bryan, the actor who played the oldest son on the long-running 1990s sit-com Home Improvement, was arrested in Oregon and faces charges of strangulation and assault.

The Eugene Police Department said officers were dispatched to a North Eugene apartment Friday night on a report of a physical dispute. They found Bryan, 39, sitting outside and his girlfriend, 27, at a neighboring apartment.

Bryan reportedly assaulted the victim, impeded her breathing, and took her phone away when she tried to call 911, police said. The victim declined medical assistance.

Boy With Autism 'Left to Die' After Tricked to Drink Bleach, Reports Say

A12-year-old boy with autism needed to be put on a life support machine after being given bleach to drink by older children, it has been alleged.

Ronnie Phillips, 12, left his home in Crawley, a town in the south of England, with his 11-year-old brother on Friday night while their mum was asleep in the house. It is believed that he and his brother then met up with some older children on the same night, where was given a drink which the children claimed was alcohol, but which was allegedly mixed with bleach, according to his mum Danielle Porter.

It has not been confirmed yet what substance was in the drink, however the police are investigating the incident which left Ronnie collapsed on the side of a road. Older brother Jimmy was said to have screamed for help, fearing that Ronnie had died, an experience that left him traumatized, according to Porter.

Blake Jenner Confirms Ex-Wife Melissa Benoist’s Allegations of Domestic Abuse

Actor Blake Jenner has broken his silence regarding claims of mental, emotional, and physical abuse lodged against him by ex-wife Supergirl’s Melissa Benoist.

“I take full responsibility and accountability for the hurt that I inflicted during my relationship with my past partner - emotionally, mentally, and yes, physically.” Rather than leave it at that, Jenner goes on to allege that Benoist emotionally, mentally, and physically abused him during their relationship. “Without absolving myself of any responsibility,” Jenner writes, “it is important to understand that there was mental, emotional, and physical abuse from both ends.”

Fugitive dad arrested for slaying teen daughters in ‘honor killing’

A Texas father — one of the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives — wanted for the slayings of his two teen daughters was busted after more than 12 years on the run, the federal law enforcement agency announced.

The teens were found shot multiple times in a cab outside an Irving motel after one of them called 911, saying she was dying, authorities said.

“Help,” the younger sister could be heard crying on a 911 recording. “I’m dying. Oh my God. Stop it.”

Relatives at the time told cops that Yaser threatened “bodily harm” against Sarah for going on a date with a non-Muslim.

Two women say ex-Washington RB Derrius Guice raped them at LSU when he was a freshman

Two former Louisiana State University students said recently released Washington Football Team running back Derrius Guice raped them months apart in 2016, when he was a rising star freshman on the LSU football team.

A USA TODAY investigation found that the women’s allegations were shared at the time with multiple people at the school – including at least two coaches, an athletics administrator and a nurse – yet the school does not appear to have investigated.

As the holder of LSU’s single-game rushing record and No. 5 on the Tigers’ career rushing list, Guice was expected to be a first-round pick in the 2018 draft. But he fell to the end of the second round amid concerns about his maturity and accountability. Injuries have plagued his short professional career, and Washington cut him Aug. 7 after his arrest the same day in Virginia on multiple domestic violence charges.

Cuomo dismisses AOC’s claims about NYC crime uptick and rent struggles: ‘It is factually impossible’

Cuomo took aim at the Democratic congresswoman representing parts of Queens and the Bronx after he was asked during a press briefing in Manhattan about her recent claim that the crime spike could be connected to New Yorkers having a hard time making rent amid the coronavirus pandemic.

“It is factually impossible that somebody committed a crime so they could pay their rent,” the governor said, noting that the recent crime uptick is dominated by shootings and other violent offenses.

National Sexual Assault Hotline sees record demand during pandemic. Many reaching out are children.

Many of them call when they feel there is nowhere else to turn.

The girl whose brother was brought home by the pandemic and began to abuse her again. The victim separated from her favorite teacher after a coronavirus-related school closure. The child who urgently needed help calling 911.

As the coronavirus pandemic has engulfed the country, more children are reaching out to the Rape Abuse and Incest National Network's National Sexual Assault Hotline, which said this week it's experiencing its highest demand for services in its 26-year history. In May and June, half of visitors to RAINN's online hotline, which sees some of the most urgent cases, were minors.

"Their safety net collapsed during this period," said RAINN president Scott Berkowitz. "Normally the first people to spot signs of abuse are adults outside the immediate family. Teachers and guidance counselors and the parents of friends. Once kids were cut off from that support group, we've seen in a lot of states that reports to child abuse authorities have declined."

Man accused of hiding in girl’s bedroom, sexually abusing her for a month

A Washington state man sexually abused a 12-year-old while hiding out in her bedroom over the course of a month, federal prosecutors said.

Zacharias Adrian Cavasos, 21, initially contacted the girl on social media in December before traveling from Washington to Oregon to meet the child at the Wildhorse Resort and Casino in Pendleton in February, according to court records cited by The Oregonian.

Cavasos then secretly moved into the girl’s room on Feb. 10, hiding from her grandfather by staying in a cavity beneath the girl’s bed after removing slats that held her mattress, Assistant US Attorney Jennifer Martin said.

The pandemic isn't changing crime like you'd expect

Whatever you expect the COVID-19 pandemic to do to crime rates, it's probably not doing that.

Well, not exactly. There's no single story of coronavirus and crime. Some types of crime are increasing during the pandemic, while other crime rates are falling. Crime is up in some places and down in others. It will be tempting, not least for me, to cherry-pick coronavirus-era data to "prove" how our justice system should or shouldn't change, yet as with so much of the pandemic information available to us, right now caution is more warranted than certainty.

By far the most frequent headline claim about crime rates during the COVID-19 outbreak is that they're falling. That's not wrong, but neither is it complete. A USA Today survey of 20 police departments found all but one saw criminal incidents decline in the first two weeks of March as social distancing began. Further analysis of "crime data published by 53 law enforcement agencies in two dozen states" reinforced that trend, USA Today reported, finding law enforcement "logged dramatically fewer calls for service, crime incidents, and arrests" in those two weeks than in the six weeks prior. Residential burglary, robbery, assault, and murder all decreased. (Miami has not had a homicide in six weeks, for example, a record since 1964.)

But some falling crime rates aren't necessarily attributable to change in public behavior. Shifts in policing practice are rather responsible. COVID-19 is spreading within some police departments (notably, New York, Chicago, and Detroit), and in some cities, officers have been directed to avoid unnecessary contact with the public.
