Obama says cancel culture has gone 'overboard': Stop expecting everybody 'to be perfect'

Former President Barack Obama again took aim at the "dangers" of cancel culture in a new interview Monday, doubling down on earlier warnings against ideological purity tests that have been weaponized by much of the left in recent years.

Obama said his two daughters, 19-year-old Sasha and 22-year-old Malia "have a pretty good sense of, ‘look, we don’t want, we don’t expect everybody to be perfect.’"

The former president raised eyebrows in 2019 when he first spoke out against what he called "woke" virtue signaling, where he told an audience in Chicago that activists "should get over" their obsession with the flawed ideology.

Yale Law Professor and Tiger Father Jed Rubenfeld Allegedly Created Culture of Sexual Harassment

Last year Yale law professor and husband to Tiger Mom author Amy Chua Jeb Rubenfeld was placed on a two-year suspension from teaching after the school found that he had sexually harassed three students. But the specifics of the allegations against Rubenfeld, which included verbal harassment and attempted kissing, have been largely confidential. Now a New York Magazine piece about allegations against Rubenfeld, who has been accused of making inappropriate comments and engaging in “excessive drinking” with students, details Rubenfeld’s sexual misconduct with students and the Yale power couple’s abuse of power at a university structured to give them far too much in the first place.

One night Rubenfeld, after ordering himself and the 2014 student a round of drinks specifically after seeing her order Scotch, “would start leaning toward her, touching her arm or the small of her back as he joined a conversation, or staring into her eyes,” according to New York. And on another night, at a small group party at Rubenfeld’s home, the same student said she accidentally tripped on a staircase and suddenly found herself being cradled by the professor as he attempted to kiss her. Rubenfeld would later deny this in proceedings, saying “She is not someone I would call attractive,” and went on a rant in which he admitted that she wasn’t even the first woman who had accused him of trying to kiss her.

Black dog owner defends 'Central Park Karen,' says black birdwatcher threatened him as well

Amy Cooper, the white woman who went viral last year as "Central Park Karen" for calling 911 after an interaction with a black birdwatcher, has filed suit against her former employer for wrongful termination. Contained in the suit is an email from black dog owner Jerome Lockett, whose message with NBC News details a similar interaction between himself and Christian Cooper in which the birdwatch allegedly threatened him for having his dog off leash.

Black woman who told white neighbor to 'get out of my face' after being asked to speak more quietly

A black woman talking on the phone in her Detroit neighborhood was slapped with a $385 fine after a white neighbor called the cops on her for being too loud.

Diamond Robinson was speaking on the phone on Thursday while taking a stroll in Eastpointe when she says she was approached by a neighbor who asked her 'Do you think that you can get off your phone or talk lower?' Robinson told Fox 2 News.

Robinson wrote on Facebook that her neighbor, who she called 'Rebecca', told her that she was talking too loud while she was working from home and her boss asked her about the noise.

Marvel bosses reportedly unhappy over viral Taika Waititi, Tessa Thompson and Rita Ora photos

Marvel bosses were reportedly unimpressed with the recent photographs of director Taika Waititi together with Rita Ora and Tessa Thompson.

According to The Daily Telegraph, Marvel bosses have reportedly reprimanded the Kiwi filmmaker for the photograph.

An insider close to Thor: Love and Thunder’s production told the publication that the behaviour exhibited in the photo is “not exactly the image they’re looking to project in relation to one of their biggest franchises”.

They added that although the 45-year-old has a reputation for being a “party animal”, the photos “crossed a line” for Marvel bosses.

Asian American Silicon Valley councilwoman branded racist after saying BLM activist's texts worried her

An Asian American city councilwoman in California says she’s struggling to deal with cancel culturists who’ve called her racist and hounded her for months following a dispute with a local Black activist.

Lynette Lee Eng, a nonpartisan city councilwoman in Los Altos, was in the middle of an official Zoom meeting on Nov. 24 when she received a text message from a 22-year-old local activist named Kenan Moos complaining about the way she'd voted. She said something about it, and then things went woke.

She said the case illustrates how cancel culture and organized shaming and intimidation can interfere with officials’ routine duties as well as keep them fearful of speaking their minds honestly and getting meaningful work done. Moos and his supporters have repeatedly returned to subsequent city council meetings to re-air their grievances.

Lee Eng, who speaks slowly and deliberately, said that she has survived a stroke and already goes to great lengths to articulate her thoughts. The drama just makes her job harder, she said.

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot: I'm only granting one-on-one interviews to journalists of color

Chicago Mayor Lori Lightfoot announced Wednesday that she will grant one-on-one interviews to mark the two-year anniversary of her inauguration solely to journalists of color, saying she has been struck by the “overwhelmingly” white press corps in Chicago.

“I ran to break up the status quo that was failing so many,” Lightfoot, who is Black, tweeted, also issuing a detailed letter to City Hall reporters on her decision. “That isn’t just in City Hall. It’s a shame that in 2021, the City Hall press corps is overwhelmingly White in a city where more than half of the city identifies as Black, Latino, AAPI or Native American.”

While the move isn’t unprecedented in recent years, it drew fierce scrutiny among the city’s press corps and beyond with members of the media quickly taking Lightfoot to task for her decision.

Chris Cuomo's calls with brother Gov. Andrew Cuomo's staff on sex harassment claims 'inappropriate,' CNN says

The host of "Cuomo Primetime" has not been covering the sexual harassment accusations against his older brother on his primetime show because of the close family connection, but Thursday's story revealed the anchor's behind-the-scenes involvement with the governor and his staff.

CNN made that point in a statement about the news, criticizing Cuomo's involvement with gubernatorial staff.

'Dr. Phil' Ranch Abuse Scandal: What to Know

Phil McGraw is wrapped up in a new scandal after sending multiple young guests to a treatment facility that has been accused of abuse. It began with a lawsuit filed by Hannah Archuleta, who appeared on Dr. Phil in 2019 and then went to the Turn-About Ranch. Now, other past guests on the show are coming forward with similar stories, including rapper Bhad Bhabie.

According to a report by The Sun, Archuleta's lawsuit says that she was sexually assaulted multiple times while in the Turn-About Ranch program and was punished for speaking out about the abuse. Archuleta did not accuse McGraw of any wrongdoing, but Bhad Bhabie has. In a video released on Friday, she demanded a public apology from McGraw for herself and other teenagers he sent to the ranch.

White House staffers asked to resign or work remotely after revealing past marijuana use

Several White House staffers were asked to resign, were suspended or are working remotely after revealing past marijuana use during their background checks, sources familiar with the situation tell CNN.

Five people are no longer employed at the White House, while additional staffers are working remotely. In many of the cases involving staffers who are no longer employed, additional security factors were in play, including for some hard drug use, the official said.

While marijuana use is legal in many states, it is still illegal on the federal level, which can present a hurdle in the federal security clearance process.

Spanish porn star who 'killed fashion photographer by giving him poisonous hallucinogenic toad venom during shamanic ritual' is charged with manslaughter

A Spanish porn star has been charged with manslaughter after a fashion photographer died from inhaling psychedelic toad vapour.

Nacho Vidal, 47, could be considered responsible for the death of Jose Luis Abad after administering the Colorado River Toad venom at his house in Enguera, Valencia, in July 2019, a judge has said.

It is thought that Vidal, who has starred in more than 600 adult films, provided the substance as part of a shaman ceremony to help Abad cure his cocaine addiction.
