Bullit (1968)

Steve McQueen was a blue-eyed splendor with a big cock and a knack for fashion that magnetized stories. Steve is the cop handpicked to protect a witness that will bring down a gangster opponent of the state. The car chase was a masterclass of stunts, choreography and edits. The foot chase was close-up, physically accurate and breathtaking. The lack of music added organic tension to the action. Bissett was breathtaking and accomplished. Its quietude added nervous reality. A man can only change its fate if everyone is safe. A film to be studied and outdone. 08-Dec-2023
Whale, The (2022)

As soon as Brendan's eyes opened wide and lit like a bulb, I knew the character's representation was safe. Withering is an earth occurrence and examining it won't kill us any faster. When you wither you have no other option but to reflect on your life and try to make amends to people that deserved your love. One of Aronofsky's best abilities is creating horror with mood, drama and raw emotion. As dark as his art is, he doesn't want to jumpscare, he wants to haunt. The main's routines, fears, lies, talents and regret are highlighted in shadows, realism and good writing. Fraser owns the fatsuit because when he was young I thought he was a beauty that gleamed so sadly. It's not the shape of a man but the soul. The cast support like a perfect theater troupe. Aronofsky is beyond facades. 20-Oct-2023
Random Harvest (1942)

Old ex warmonger escapes a military asylum housing him because of amnesia. Can a man with no signature or memories lead a happy life? Greer Garson seems to think so. She is patient, overprotective and decisive. Ronald Colman plays the lost man as a terminally ill person that has little time to appreciate smiles and good memories. Mama Garson strips Colman of his insecurities by putting him on a pedestal. Ronald Colman breaks the spell by having another accident. He keeps rebooting. He remembers before the war but not afterwards. Garson, who? Luckily, he comes from prestige and the world is open to him. He has family, position, respect and a niece with baby's breath. The teen was efficiently smart. If she seduces him now she can easily unstitch for him later, when she's legal. The girl keeps declaring that he's not really her uncle. (Then, why does she keep calling him that?) His new past enters his present to prove to him that she is the only thing in his life worth remembering. I am not sure the logistics were accurate but the story considered many outcomes and Greer Garson was a stunner. She turned her stone diamond persona into bouncy balloons. I couldn't stop studying her. 29-Mar-2023
Red Rocket (2021)

It's one of the last movies on your must-see list. It approaches it's subject organically. Simon Rex, gay boy of our dreams, plays an ex-demi-god porn star of abundance who can fuck almost any troubled girl into doing things for him. Homeless and violated Rex makes it to his ex-wife, mother-in-hillbilly-law and an old life he escaped. He's constantly explaining himself and piling the lies to establish false hope. Our marbled eyed daddy churns money to subside the women's rage and win their respect back. Ex-wife pokes him once or twice for old and new times sake. Mama likes the money. Daddy meets a teenage queen who will resurrect his stamina and spark less Viagra use. That's fucked up for everybody. She is also the ticket for his porn comeback. Ex-pretty boys who become hotter daddies will get fucked and "fucked!" Simon Rex is a rocket. In need of a fix and not caring who knows it. He's lit the whole time. The cast was natural and diverse and most of all, integrated. I immediately identified. 26-Jan-2023
RRR (2022)

It's loud, expensive, unbelievable, daring, striking, slamming and has two super daddies that have much to say. Daddies from opposite sides of the revolution become hidden identity bffs with loads of heart and muscle to give. The white witch makes a return to the screen. She is half in charge and making daddies' lives miserable. She snatches a baby sister from a daddy's tribe and enslaves her to do her nails as she controls the other by giving him power to enforce the law without limitations. White Poppa controls the army and the audacity. I got lost in the world and accepted everything that defied because everything it conquered was so joyous. 20-Dec-2022
Everything Everywhere All At Once (2022)

It begins with family authenticity, struggling to keep current and afloat. Super reality sets in and the tingles begin. Oh no! It's going to be bonkers. The cast resolves it. I wasn't sure if the husband was Jackie Chan. I spent a lot of the time being jealous of how young he looked. It was driving me crazy. He can't be, right? When he utilized the master's moves, I thought, that's definitely Jackie Chan. It's a tribute to him and Michelle Yeoh as action heroes but why does he look so fucking young? Terrific surgery perhaps? Ke Huy Quan is as adorable now as he was as a kid in a Spielberg classic. The man was precise. To Lady Yeoh, we gently bow. Stephanie Hsu had fun being all iterations of evil because we had fun too. Jamie Lee Curtis was gnarly. James Hong added his queerisms. The film threw as many cliches as it did new ideas. A win win for art. A film that wipes its imperfections with glorious shots of legends reacting to wonder and giving us soul. 27-Nov-2022
Disenchanted (2022)

The most enchanting thing about both films is Amy. When her magic is at full tilt, production continues her flow. Dempsey was saddled with a silly storyline and a "send him away" type direction. Women and men no longer want to fight together. It's women's turn to die for what they believe in. Marsden is a pro at acting douchy but cute. Gabriella was just right. Maya stopped fussing and was funny again. The music was almost but it felt like there was an intruder interrupting the grandeur. Some of the songs are juvenile. Idina Menzel wrecking her throat's gift on shitty songs is a never. They made her sing "Let It Glow," again and again. Her magnificent voice gets a full moon. Amy's everything makes you hungry for more. Suburbia works as a stand-in for a magical life but once true magic coaxes itself into reality the ink starts to dry. They gave no magic equations or rules of limitations that we could realistically follow. What kind of magic is in Andalucia? Why did the queen gain power? Is Andalucia in Wakanda? None of the above. They gave no rules because they didn't want to have to follow them. Dude, that's when the best art is created! Full moon to the production in front and back and a boo hoo to the writers for not coming up with something more substantial to say. 18-Nov-2022
House of Gucci (2021)

The film epitomizes what Hollywood has become. Every hand must be held and head patted, no matter their importance. New and shit are not synonymous with good. Someone put something in their drinks because they were wheezing in and out of accents and it was 100% contagious. It was a Gucci movie made by Soviets. None of the Italian performers generated a complaint that their families didn't sound like that? Gaga clutches her star watt with brilliance, outrageousness and hysterics. Ridley Scott found his niche, upgrading a Wayans production to mastery. 13-May-2022
Spider-Man No Way Home (2021)

The film needed a script doctor. The younglings have endured enough ugly world to be acting like babies. They turned Dr. Strange into a goofball with quips. They took away Spider-man's scathing witticisms and replaced them with awkward and cute. Electro is only as good as his paycheck and its effect. Sandman shook. Dock Ock was a fond memory. The boys came back, all grown up, giving us the feels. I wish Aunt May had not given a shit. She had no backbone. The younglings were greater than their material. They needed a drip of Willem Dafoe to stay great because they looked exhausted. Tech was brilliant comic book magic served on a flying carpet. 02-May-2022
Throne Of Blood (1957)

Kurosawa's imagining of Macbeth was intoxicating. He lingered until we felt the character's desperation. The background was still and intimidating. The actors wore silent film faces with impassioned speak. Toshiro Mifune was a beast royale as MacBeth. Isuzu Yamada was fabulously haunting as his Lady. The rustle of her dress, the scary predictions, the make-up and bouts of violent madness. She was a favorite thing. Deaths were choreographed with coherent math and geography. Inspiration is achieved. Masterpiece recreation is impossible because the best things in it happened by accident. 28-Mar-2022
Humoresque (1946)

Like Batman I focused on a minor detail that should have gotten someone fired and the picture burnt. Ms. Crawford's leg looks beat up. Is it make-up? Is it black nail polish? Did she fall down a flight of stairs? Are those surgery scars? Is that why she's sitting? Was she secretly dirty? It looks awful. 14-Mar-2022
Should you expect payback for endorsing a genius? The film ponders it and applies solutions. John Garfield was born to play broke hot daddies with genius and obsessive compulsions. Joan Crawford always "manned up" to cure them. Ms. Crawford was almost comical until she put on a pair of glasses and blossomed into a bona fide artist. It was classic thespian. The parents' interjection seemed appropriate to the traditions of a hard working family. The family worked to establish a genius and survive. Mama and papa were the mama and papa that lucky children got. Papa looked out while mama cared a lot. Flashbacks were insightful. Ms. Crawford was fashionably tailored to her specifications. The story happens. Oscar Levant was the wisecracking loser that coasted from genius because he failed on his own. He spoke the uncomfortable words the "damned" never listened to because he wasn't "hot." Funny. 04-Mar-2022
Diary Of A Madman (1963)

Hordas are turning confused souls into killers. Hordas are hard to describe. They are ghostly, invisible, well-spoken, manipulating, manly and turn your eyes green before possessing you to avenge their thirst. Vincent Price is a magistrate trying to rehabilitate a killer Horda being legally beheaded because of incriminating evidence. The killer confesses to murder but not being himself. His eyes turn green and threatens a Horda curse. Price fights for his life and accidentally kills him. Price becomes distraught. Things at home are out of place and he's having Venom type conversations with a Horda that lost its home. Counseling convinces him to leave law and punishment and return to sculpting. His first love before his wife and child died. A married goldigger entices Mr. Price to model for him. The bitch that tried to steal Darrin Stephens from Samantha is the model. As soon as she sniffs how affordability can accommodate luxury, her panties wet faster than his clay and her "hot" "poor" husband becomes a blur. The green eye effect is hilarious. It's someone flashing a green light on the actor's eyes and being effective if they never move. They move. They're actors! It's a niche. Gay daddy clinches his part and makes us imagine the rest. "I imagined what kind of gay sex Mr. Price preferred. He definitely smoked like a bandit but I didn't smell much ass action." 16-Feb-2022
Eyes Of Tammy Faye, The (2021)

It's cold on facts and quick with details. Two fascinating humans aligning to make the world a better place for themselves, remain enigmas. They let go of reality and rode a magic horse to success. Magic horses need lots of water so they steal some from neighboring lands. Lands dry up and competitors get suspicious. Jessica has brilliant moments when spiritually linked to the original but defaults to herself when Tammy Faye does nothing spectacular. There was no Faye spin on song or yell. Jessica completed a very difficult job. Andrew Garfield instantly reminded me of the Jim Bakker I thought I forgot. He was excellent. What happened with the kids? 13-Jan-2022
Venom: Let There Be Carnage (2021)

Venom is nothing without that spider boy splitting his ass in half. How fortunate that Tom Hardy has a dick-breaking ass. Venom's and Tom's duality don't combine. There are attempts to bring them together but talking to green screens is all it is. I imagined a wraparound as opposed to a pop out. I was aghast at how youthful and beautiful Mira Sorvino looked then realized with humiliation that it was Michelle Williams. Michelle got rid of the haughty accents, loosens up and shakes her sourpuss. Reid Scott was a supportive adorable dunce. I thought Stephen Graham was a Walhlberg doing a bad imitation of a better Wahlberg. Woody Harrelson was channeling an old white woman from the 1950's out on her last stroll. Go nuts, daddy! The film has no purpose except to destroy and sell but it has stupid entertainment value. I liked Asian Venom, they gave us a hint at Lady Venom and didn't dare realize a Drag Queen Venom. Why not? 07-Jan-2022
Lady Takes A Sailor, The (1949)

Promising businesswoman gets hit by a submarine while sailing. A sunshine spitting mariner reluctantly rescues her. She becomes privy to a super submarine but its captain remains a mystery. Once ashore she galvanizes the press and her business support with the story of her rescue. They think she is lying so they cancel her. Business funding is out, the camera footage proving her truth has been stolen and she's losing followers. Meanwhile, daddy spit sunshine's career is being threatened if the public believes her. It's oneupmanship of a tingly kind, romance of another with two star legends willing to do anything for a laugh and adoration. Eve Arden never hurts. Screwball comedy masters. 06-Sep-2021
