Carry-On (2024)
Taron's face was made for panic and his feet were meant for trampling. Every time Bateman got evil I thought of Rhoda, betrayals and contracts. I may not be able to wrap my arms around the Norris anymore but I can still lick his teeth. I didn't know if to pluck Rossi's vagina mustache or smash it. Nobody questioned why Taron was talking to himself for fifteen minutes. What kind of TSA agents are these? The thriller downplays itself and it's a blessing. 16-Dec-2024
Firstborn (1984)
Michael Apted takes a serious and realistic approach to the venomous step-parents that single parents bring home because they're lonely. Terri Garr adds manic depression to a woman whose future options are crumbling. She latches on to leeches that pay her false attention. The brothers do a great job of conveying how invasive "new dad" feels at different stages of a boy's life. Real dad is fucking twinksies and getting them pregnant so he can replace them. Peter Weller's lips were artistically meant for masks and unmentionable things. Unmasked he's hair, eyes, hips and wickedly intimidating. He dispenses sexual tension and satisfaction whenever he punishes the boys. Scary uncle syndrome. Baby Corey was the younger brother whose life as a victim made him stronger than he thought. Baby Jessica Parker aced acting classes but failed the fashion academy. I don't know if Baby Downey Jr.'s character was supposed to be gay. If they intimated it I missed it. Boy acted like he was trolling for dick. 06-Apr-2024
Anatomy Of A Fall (2023)
Shots were placed strategically, playing P.I.M.P. on rotation filled the house with dread and the dog tore up his scenes. The lead played it one-sided which gave away the outcome. There was no Bette Davis conniver in her spirit. The film never strays from repeating the same story from different angles. It becomes exhausting to sit through. It needed to give the audience a break from the same subject. The clues fell so easily on the writer's lap that no surprises were forthcoming. They coerced the kid to pick a side but the director didn't. 22-Mar-2024
All Of Us Strangers (2023)
The movie deserves full attention to catch all its nuances. The boys smoked, the family spoke and the setting threatened. Scott never deviated from pain and it helped with the surprises. Mescal loomed large with childlike characteristics and sensitivity. Hulk and Dr. Banner. The sex scenes sufficed. I wanted to squeeze Scott's adorable little face and do anything else with the other one. Oh, and dad too. They could have tongued more to make it more realistic, though. What gay men fear is what they become. Alone with their thoughts. 28-Feb-2024
May December (2023)
Lack of clarity and character purpose slows a movie about a female child molester. The boy was thirteen, she got caught, went to jail, became pregnant and married the victim. Natalie Portman is the actress that arrives 20 years later to witness the aftermath and understand the feelings involved in a messy woman's choices so she can better portray her in an upcoming film. The couple believes it might bring redemption but it's not clear what Portman's true intentions are. Julianne Moore settles on a safe space where the husband, children and neighborhood are trapped within the woman's bubble of fantasy and control. She never thought she did anything wrong except cheat on her husband. Boy grows up and remembers feelings that were not kosher, his dependence on his wife gives him no place to run to and he needs to blast it to any one that can help him understand. Charles Melton's abused boy is a frozen fuckboy in a bubble of his own that conveyed not much more than the script. Melton pauses and clamps trying to act through something that's keeping him away. The beautiful score is unsettling and builds to nothing. Moore has a few moments, Portman gave us brilliant seconds but the styles never coalesced. The script mumbles and only hints at evoking feeling. When a woman is a victim of abuse, her story is always front and center. If the man is the abuser he has to register as a sex offender, not live by schools or children, be destroyed for life and never be the lead in his own story. Why didn't this victim get the same respect? 03-Dec-2023
Nun II, The (2023)
If beliefs cause faith why can't we believe there are no demons? We have to fight them first so we know we're good. Taissa gave great face and Storm Reid was her partner, lapping it all up. They had an interracial team-up that felt genuine. Jonas Bloquet was eliciting Hammer tremors. The nun was still glorious, showing up scantily but creepy and ready to blow. Her backstory held. It's fun watching scared little mean girls. 17-Nov-2023
Whale, The (2022)
As soon as Brendan's eyes opened wide and lit like a bulb, I knew the character's representation was safe. Withering is an earth occurrence and examining it won't kill us any faster. When you wither you have no other option but to reflect on your life and try to make amends to people that deserved your love. One of Aronofsky's best abilities is creating horror with mood, drama and raw emotion. As dark as his art is, he doesn't want to jumpscare, he wants to haunt. The main's routines, fears, lies, talents and regret are highlighted in shadows, realism and good writing. Fraser owns the fatsuit. When younger I thought him a most sad beauty. It's not the shape of a man but the soul. The cast support like a perfect theater troupe. Aronofsky is beyond facades. 20-Oct-2023
Extraction 2 (2023)
Daddy's ready to act, pounce and revive an unwilling survivor. Movements and betrayals were triumphant. Hemsworth receives magnificent aide in battle as he abandons all pity towards his enemy and unleashes an animal that knows no bounds. The action slows enough to make us care about the characters but the action is the showcase and the director needs to make us a superhero film. People would cum web buckets or shit bats. 07-Jul-2023
Hunchback OF Notre Dame, The (1996)
Laid out like an adult novel that kids can understand. There is no better marriage than broadway and Disney. The score may not be everlasting but it's made up of raw talent and emotion. The songs and singers soared. The animation splashed with celebratory colors while hellish fire represented its demise. Quasi is a molded adult broken by a murdered mother and a crippled body. He is adopted by the man who wronged him, controlled him and gaslit into hiding the monster inside of himself. The subjects are very adult. The adoptive father rules the town with sexual and racist motivation. Gypsies are taking over. The crime rate is through the roof and they are to blame. A Festival of Fools sets up the threads that make all the characters intersect for a grande finale. The monster convinces himself he can attend. A military captain has just been initiated. Esmeralda seduces all the men with her gypsy dance and her unapologetic heart. Evil master Frollo becomes obsessed with dominating her. The good men compete with each other to protect her. Everything is big, everything is right but it begged for a slow down. I know, the kiddies would've exploded in their seats but the adults might have watched it again. It's not the best but it's unique. 04-Jun-2023
M3GN (2022)
When pristine horror gets blood splattered, it resonates. AI has become a substitute for jobs that were once revered by the original occupant. Humans. Live shows, movies, tv, music, computers, phones, news, robots, etc. Each performance shaping the community they want to live in. M3GN has many faults but protecting a child was a built-in priority. A grieving child with no parents, structure or stability will succumb to the charms of a robot if you make her look and act like a best friend. Aunty creates M3GN and other incredibly expensive robotic toys that probably belong in a mansion. Her new invention is going to cure parenting and loneliness... moving the child farther away from a heart beat. M3GAN is a beautiful creation, maneuvered rightly, timed perfectly and a show stopper. The more M3GN claimed the child the more motherly aunty became. Flaws can be overlooked when the value of entertainment is so high. Perfectly cast and remembered. Fun as fuck! I wished she had killed more. As long as creator and monster are liable, human parenting will diminish. I am one of those children. My real mother's name was television. I'm sure somebody's heard of her. 22-May-2023
Fablemans, The (2022)
Spielberg shares his origins with humor, movie magic and insight. Michelle Williams stands out as a Tinkerbell mom who needs to live out a fairy dust life. The kids are natural. The cast members embraced their profession and delivered. Steven created a nice flow. It is only when you get to the end that you appreciate what transpired. 07-Mar-2023
Barbarian (2022)
Smart character setup and fear causation. Bill Skarsgard is hypnotic as a clown and himself. I'm impressed how he balances his native language with english. Matthew Patrick played a hideous mother, hideously. Georgina Campbell conveyed what we were thinking. Justin Long adds adult anxiety, teenage WGAF attitude and a boy rendering the horror he sees. It skidded off the earth at the end. Big bad doesn't have to be preposterous. The simpler the monster the better the explanation, the more we shiver. This only happens to one person every 100 years. Ooh, I'm shaking in my boots. 13-Dec-2022
Last Woman On Earth, The (1960)
While on a scuba diving expedition in Puerto Rico a newly married couple and their lawyer end up the last humans on earth when they resurface. They survive and explain the cause through the progression of the environment and by applying science to their observations. Words were in tune with how a woman might feel being the last one. The men went caveman because the lawyer has needs and his boss' wife was the only relief. I kept feeling the script would have had more depth had it not been costly. Wife is a newlywed who lusts to spend more time with her gangster husband. Lawyer is a do-gooder schmuck whose tired of being manipulated by sore losers. Every time the story filled in a hole the director cut away to something exotic. They hardly pondered whether, as last adults, they were worthy enough to replenish the earth. Wife's legs dangling from atop the boat, the men fish-slapping each other, the atmosphere (Puerto Ricans in 1960), the woman's hair turning from blonde to black and jitter acting that enunciates realness, were shots I will remember.
Remake. (Pssst: I would have given her my sperm and fucked daddy. Yeah, let her decide the future of the world.) 25-Oct-2022
A Doll's House (1973)
A woman moving in with a man must turn the home into a dollhouse in order to make her feel like she owns it. She owns him as much as he thinks he owns her, but a toy is the only home she will ever get to own. The cast played it without pity, the story excelled as it moved, even though status has changed, emotions remain the same and Jane Fonda flexed some beautiful muscles. Freedom comes after you stop lying to yourself. A real Christmas story. 17-Oct-2022
Morbius (2022)
It's faithful to the psychology of its origins, someone brilliantly decided the actors should play characters instead of costumed heroes and its presentation feels like a team Burton aside. I would trade two investigators for a Krave The Hunter, a Blade or Felicia Hardy/Black Cat to up the flavor and sensuality. An MCU R-rated Batman opportunity best not lost. 13-Sep-2022
