My sister uses hippy-dippy ‘gentle parenting’

“During the first two days of their stay, her daughter drew on my walls with crayon,” said the disgruntled woman. “And her son pulled up flowers I had recently planted in my garden bed and threw a rock at my car parked in the driveway.”

“To top it all off,” she continued, “they both kept constantly pulling my golden retriever’s hair and hitting my dog in the face.”

Man strangles coyote after animal attacks his child during family walk

A coyote attacked several people within hours Monday before being killed by a local man after the animal tried to bite his son, according to Kensington police.

Kensington Police Chief Scott Cain said the man was walking with his family on Phillips Exeter Academy’s Red Trail on the Kensington-Exeter line when the coyote appeared and attacked the family’s young son.

Cain said the coyote was only able to bite the child’s jacket before the father grabbed the animal and strangled it to death. However, in the struggle, the father was bitten and he had to go to the hospital to receive rabies shots, Cain said.

Teen Girl Evicts Family...

“[Not the asshole] The family is taking advantage of your brother and keeps moving more people into the house he OWNS. I am assuming nobody pays rent. It is your brother’s right to evict them. Maybe your stepsister should take responsibility for herself and the unborn baby. I can’t believe these people wanted to put you in a shed.”

A few years ago, the actor and singer revealed that he just wasn’t ready for fatherhood, acknowledging that becoming a dad is a big responsibility that he wouldn’t be able to fully commit to at the moment. He admitted, “I think it’s really important to be present if you have children. I have a lot of...things to take care of.”

Why having kids doesn’t necessarily make you happier, according to research

Parents often refer to their children as their “pride and joy.” But research tells a different story: Having kids doesn’t necessarily make people happier.

Most parents feel that their children are incredibly important sources of life satisfaction, says Jennifer Glass, professor of sociology at the University of Texas at Austin and a demographer who studies the relationship between parenthood and well-being.

“But that’s not the same thing as happiness, and it’s not the same thing as financial well-being, good physical health or good emotional health,” Glass tells CNBC Make It.

So, why does having kids not provide the happiness that we think it will?

Why Everyone Is So Rude Right Now

Of course, it’s the people-have-lost-their-everloving-minds incidents that make the news, but they are also a reflection of a deeper trend; Americans appear to have forgotten their manners, especially with those whose job it is to assist them. Lawyers are reporting ruder clients. Restaurants are reporting ruder clients. Flight attendants, for whom rude clients are no novelty, are reporting mayhem. (FAA fines for unruly behavior have already exceeded a million dollars this year.) So legion are the reports of discourtesy that some customer-facing businesses have been forced to play Miss Manners.

Spanish Law Requires Kids To Do Chores. What a Great Idea

Suddenly I’m thinking of moving to Spain.

A bill introduced recently in the nation’s parliament would require that Spanish children do housework and homework. They would also be required to “participate in family life” and “respect their parents and siblings.”

Wow. Good luck with that.

Back here in the United States, I can barely get my 16-year-old to take out the trash. Sometimes, it feels like Middle East peace talks must be easier.

Meanwhile, other parents don’t even ask their kids to pitch in—either because they’ve completely surrendered, have concluded that it’s easier to do the job themselves, or have decided that after-school activities and playtime are more valuable. Children have gone “from being our employees to our bosses,” Jennifer Senior notes in her book All Joy and No Fun: The Paradox of Modern Parenthood.

Glennon Doyle thinks our kids suck. And it’s all our fault.

New York Times bestselling author Glennon Doyle is unequivocal in her opinion on modern parenting.

In her new book Untamed, she describes how parents receive a ‘terrible memo’ from society as soon as our kids are born.

This memo says that our kids are our saviours and parenting them is akin to a religion. We must give them every opportunity possible and most importantly, we must never allow anything difficult to happen to them.

According to Glennon, not only does this disastrous memo make us parents feel exhausted, neurotic and guilty; but it is also the reason why our kids suck.

Ouch.

The reason our kids suck, she says, is because we no longer allow our children to learn how to lose, or to struggle, or to be rejected.
