Obama says cancel culture has gone 'overboard': Stop expecting everybody 'to be perfect'

Former President Barack Obama again took aim at the "dangers" of cancel culture in a new interview Monday, doubling down on earlier warnings against ideological purity tests that have been weaponized by much of the left in recent years.

Obama said his two daughters, 19-year-old Sasha and 22-year-old Malia "have a pretty good sense of, ‘look, we don’t want, we don’t expect everybody to be perfect.’"

The former president raised eyebrows in 2019 when he first spoke out against what he called "woke" virtue signaling, where he told an audience in Chicago that activists "should get over" their obsession with the flawed ideology.

Supreme Court is being asked to rule if it is unconstitutional to require men to register for the draft at 18 but not women

The Supreme Court is being asked to decide whether it is discrimination for the government to require only men to register for the draft when they turn 18.

The question of whether it is unconstitutional to require men but not women to register could be viewed as one with little practical impact.

The last time there was a draft was during the Vietnam War, and the military has been all-volunteer since.

As crime spirals, NY politicos push even more anti-anti-crime nonsense

Arrests in New York City are down, even as shootings continue to climb. That’s a frightening indicator that cops, mindful of political hostility, are adopting a reactive posture — and that criminals now own our streets.

The results are predictable. Gang shootouts are common. Hateful losers feel free to brutalize elderly Asian Americans. And anti-Semitic mobs openly attack terrified Jews in broad daylight.

You would think that such anarchic circumstances would prompt officials and candidates for citywide office to call for restoring law and order. But, of course, they aren’t. In fact, they’re doing the opposite, by demanding that the city double down on its disastrous experiment with criminal-justice “reform.”

Samoa in crisis as elected leader locked out of Parliament

Samoa was plunged into a constitutional crisis Monday when the woman who won an election last month was locked out of Parliament and the previous leader claimed he remained in charge.

The nation's head of state, Tuimalealiifano Va'aletoa Sualauvi II, wrote in a proclamation last week that he was suspending Parliament “for reasons that I will make known in due course." On Sunday, the Parliament's speaker backed him.

Fiame's election win was seen as a milestone not only for Samoa, which is conservative and Christian, but also for the South Pacific, which has had few female leaders.

An advocate for women’s equality, Fiame, who was born in 1957, broke new ground during her campaign by going on the road and robustly criticizing the incumbent.

Asian American Silicon Valley councilwoman branded racist after saying BLM activist's texts worried her

An Asian American city councilwoman in California says she’s struggling to deal with cancel culturists who’ve called her racist and hounded her for months following a dispute with a local Black activist.

Lynette Lee Eng, a nonpartisan city councilwoman in Los Altos, was in the middle of an official Zoom meeting on Nov. 24 when she received a text message from a 22-year-old local activist named Kenan Moos complaining about the way she'd voted. She said something about it, and then things went woke.

She said the case illustrates how cancel culture and organized shaming and intimidation can interfere with officials’ routine duties as well as keep them fearful of speaking their minds honestly and getting meaningful work done. Moos and his supporters have repeatedly returned to subsequent city council meetings to re-air their grievances.

Lee Eng, who speaks slowly and deliberately, said that she has survived a stroke and already goes to great lengths to articulate her thoughts. The drama just makes her job harder, she said.

‘GRINCH Act’ introduced to protect children's books from cancel culture: ‘No one is safe’

Rep. John Joyce, R-Pa., is fighting back against the cancel culture and argued no one is "safe" from the "woke" movement.

The Pennsylvania lawmaker is introducing the Guarding Readers’ Independence and Choice (GRINCH) Act to safeguard children’s literature from being "canceled." The GRINCH Act will cut off government funding for agencies that censor books.

"The reaction has been so positive...the cancel culture is rapidly attacking our American institutions, our libraries, our school," Joyce told "America’s Newsroom," Friday. "I'm alarmed at the left's attempt to cancel historic books characters."

#RIPJeremyRenner Trends As The Internet Tries To Cancel The MCU Star

Another day, another cancel campaign on Twitter. This Tuesday, #RIPJeremyRenner began trending on the social media platform, causing much alarm among MCU fans. Don’t take the trending topic literally, though, as the hashtag is actually being used by those who are calling for the Hawkeye star to be cancelled. Renner has a lot of infamous moments and troubling actions in his past and, for unknown reasons, the backlash against him has resurfaced again today.

Law used to prosecute Capitol riot, Black Lives Matter violence under fire as racist

The law in question was enacted in 1968. It prohibited interference with police or firefighters during group violence, amid devastating riots in Washington D.C. and across the country that followed the assassination of Rev. Martin Luther King Jr. in April of that year.

Southern senators hastily passed the measure as a way to counter civil rights laws by getting tough on African Americans accused of attacking law enforcement.

Now, attorneys are pointing to that history to question its current application. A series of motions attacking the law have been filed in recent weeks in at least five different criminal cases, which have garnered the attention of top officials at the Justice Department in Washington.

The motions note that the ‘68 law was championed by Sen. Russell Long (D-La.) and that he formally titled it “the Civil Obedience Act,” in a snarky swipe at civil disobedience advocates like King.

The powerful and avowedly segregationist senator said missives like King’s famous letter from a Birmingham jail caused “the ultimate in lawlessness, wanton killing, and senseless, destructive rioting.”

“Because Senator Long believed that criticism of white supremacy and demands for racial justice were bound to cause riots, he proposed the Civil Obedience Act as a tool to suppress such expression,” the newly filed motions argue. “The legislative history … shows that it was enacted to suppress messages in support of civil rights and racial justice for Black Americans.”

Turns Out, Hillsong Megachurch Has Allegedly Been Full of 'Inappropriate Sexual Relationships' for Years!

Last month, news broke that Carl Lentz, one-time “spiritual confidant” to celebrities including Justin Bieber and head pastor at Hillsong megachurch, was “released” from his job due to unspecified “moral failures.” Soon afterward, it was revealed that Lentz cheated on his wife, having had an affair with Brooklyn-based fashion designer Ranin Karim (and potentially, many others). As of last week, it appeared like his redemption arc was beginning to unfold, having reportedly entered treatment for anxiety, depression, and “pastoral burnout.” Except, of course, new information about a seedy, “sexual inappropriate” culture at Hillsong has begun to emerge, and I just don’t get how a “religious man” gets out of this one!

According to Page Six, back in 2018, whistleblowers within the Hillsong organization sent a letter to church leaders citing “verified, widely circulated stories of inappropriate sexual behavior amongst staff/interns,” allegedly labeling Hillsong “...dangerous and a breeding ground for unchecked abuse.”

Apparently, one high-ranking church leader was instructed to leave after the letter exposed he had “multiple inappropriate sexual relationships with several female leaders and volunteers and was verbally, emotionally, and according to one woman, physically abusive in his relationships with these women.” Another high-ranking male church leader was accused of “not respecting physical and sexual boundaries within dating relationships with female church volunteers.”

School worker claims ‘extremist’ rants against LGBT-inclusive education were ‘morally necessary’ to defend the Bible

Kristie Higgs, 44, had been employed at Farmor’s School in Fairford, Gloucestershire, for seven years, but was sacked for gross misconduct in 2018 over Facebook rants about LGBT+ inclusive education.

In one post, sharing a petition from anti-LGBT+ lobbying group CitizenGo, Higgs accused schools of “BRAINWASHING OUR CHILDREN” [sic] through inclusive relationships education, claiming: “[This] means, for example, that children will be taught that all relationships are equally valid and ‘normal’, so that same-sex marriage is exactly the same as traditional marriage, and that gender is a matter of choice, not biology, so that it’s up to them what sex they are.”

Higgs described inclusive education as a “vicious form of totalitarianism”, adding: “Please sign this petition, they have already started to brainwash our innocent wonderfully created children and it’s happening in our local primary school now.”

But this week, Higgs announced that she would be taking legal action against Farmor’s School, claiming that she was subjected to discrimination and harassment on the grounds of her religious beliefs.

Florida city repeals 13-year ban on saggy pants

After 13 years, a South Florida city has overturned a ban on “saggy pants” — bottoms that reveal the wearer's underwear.

The Opa-locka City Commission voted Wednesday on a 4-1 vote to repeal both the original 2007 legislation and a 2013 ordinance that said women, not just men, could receive civil citations for wearing pants that exposed their undergarments.

Oliver Stone Criticizes Hollywood for Turning Into an 'Alice in Wonderland' Tea Party

Oliver Stone is not a fan of the current state of Hollywood and is in no hurry to work with a studio on a mainstream film as he says the town has gone "mad."

Talking to the New York Times Magazine for a recently published interview with David Marchese, the controversial Stone called modern moviemaking "ridiculous."

"It's just so expensive — the marketing," Stone began. "Everything has become too fragile, too sensitive. Hollywood now — you can't make a film without a COVID adviser. You can't make a film without a sensitivity counselor. It's ridiculous." The Oscar-winning filmmaker granted the interview to discuss his upcoming memoir, Chasing the Light.

"The Academy changes its mind every five, 10, two months about what it's trying to keep up with," Stone told the magazine. "It's politically correct [expletive], and it's not a world I'm anxious to run out into. I've never seen it quite mad like this. It's like an Alice in Wonderland tea party."

Burger King workers stage strike after trans co-worker dies while working with COVID-19 symptoms

Staffers at the Santa Monica fast food restaurant retaliated after Angela Martinez Gómez died after being reportedly made to work a week even while displaying symptoms. Picketers, as well as the complaint, claimed that the company did not provide staff with protective gear.

One manager at the branch at 1919 Pico Boulevard allegedly blamed the death of Gómez, 42, of Oaxaca, Mexico, on hormone injections, KTLA5 reported.

Managers made Gómez carry on working for a week even while she spluttered, took frequent bathroom breaks and was visibly ill, the complaint said, before leaving her June 26 shift early.
