Does Gentle Parenting Work for Black Folks?

“Some of it makes sense to me, and some of it doesn’t,” Rowland told Martinez during their conversation. “I respect it though, because what general parenting is trying to do is break the generational curse of talking at your kids and making them feel seen and respected.” The singer added that she’s using trial and error to find the parenting approach that works best. “I’m unlearning things that happened to me in my childhood with my son,” she said.

How your ACCENT could hinder your job prospects

The bias was stronger for roles that required communication, so the researchers concluded this was related to the candidate's potential job performance.

However, they also think that prejudice could play a part, if the non-standard accent signalled an 'otherness' to the interviewee and they were devalued as a result.

13 Red Flags In A Relationship You Shouldn't Ignore

8. Gaslighting

Gaslighting is a type of manipulation that's used to maintain control over another person and involves actively denying that person's reality. For the person on the receiving end, being gaslit can feel extremely disorienting and make them question their own emotions and intuition. Page notes this is a big red flag. If you're upset about something, and this person tells you "you're being dramatic" or "that never happened," not only are they not taking accountability, but they're trying to control you and the narrative of your relationship.

Mejico refuses to allow 1,000 American Cruisers to disembark

The Jalisco state health department considered allowing each of the 1,035 passengers off the MS Koningsdam, which has at least 873 crew, as long as they turned in proof of negative COVID-19 tests, Mexican news outlet Milenio reported.

But, officials soon did a u-turn over fears that the outbreak could have spread further than the 21 infected crew members.

'This option was discarded because the health protocols indicate that no one could disembark when positive cases were registered on the boat, so the decision was finally made not to disembark,' the health department said in a statement.

I’m Being Shamed for Not Being an “Activist” on Social Media.

I know this is a ridiculous question but bear with me. Is it OK to not use my social media to post about activism, racial justice, etc.?

I (a white woman) work at a pro–racial justice nonprofit (and have done so my entire career), actively making decisions in my own life—schools, neighborhoods, houses of worship, etc.—to live my values. I have generally used social media to stay connected with folks and share more personal updates about my nonwork life. Last summer, I began feeling guilty that I didn’t engage in public activism on my social media. I follow a number of activist accounts, but don’t share or broadcast this. The guilt pushed me to post more actively about racial justice. But every time I posted, it was never just the right thing—folks on both sides of the political spectrum sent me messages nitpicking my phrasing or what I chose to share/not share, and I constantly felt angry and on edge. I also engaged less in in-person conversations because I was so jaded by the “unproductivity” of these online conversations.

School district reprimands employee who cut girl's hair

A Michigan school district has reprimanded three employees after a 7-year-old girl’s hair was cut at her elementary school.

The Mount Pleasant Public Schools Board of Education said Friday in a news release that an independent third-party investigation determined that despite “good intentions” of the worker who cut the girl’s hair on March 26, doing so without permission from her parents and without the knowledge of district administrators violated school policy.

NYC shrink tells Yale audience she fantasizes about shooting white people in head

Khilanani opened her remarks by telling the audience, “I’m gonna say a lot of things, and it will probably provoke a lot of responses, and I want you to just maybe observe them in yourself.”

“Nothing makes me angrier than a white person who tells me not to be angry, because they have not seen real anger yet,” she said — before talking about how she “systematically” cut off most of her former white friends “around five years ago.

Later in the talk, Khilanani claimed that conversing with white people about racial issues was “useless because they are at the wrong level of conversation.

“We keep forgetting that directly talking about race is a waste of our breath,” Khilanani continued. “We are asking a demented, violent predator who thinks that they are a saint or a superhero to accept responsibility. It ain’t gonna happen.
