Trailer Park Landlord Allegedly Threatened Tenants With Rent Hike If Biden Wins

A Colorado landlord allegedly sent the tenants of his trailer park a letter warning of big rent increases if Joe Biden is elected president.

“Please understand IF Joe Biden is elected as our next President, everything you do and have to pay for will change completely,” the landlord of the Fort Morgan trailer park allegedly wrote, according to a letter obtained by Denver NBC station KUSA. “Everything will be increased. Like paying ALOT more in taxes, utilities, gasoline, groceries, new permits, fees and regulations…everything! This also means YOUR RENT will be increased to cover these expenses. Most likely, rent would DOUBLE in price!”

‘Just no’: JLo just dropped a song with Maluma. It didn’t go over well with everyone

Apparently JLo’s new song with Maluma, “Lonely,” contains lyrics that some people find offensive.

Case in point: “Yo siempre seré tu negrita del Bronx,” translates to “I will always be your little black girl from The Bronx.”

The term “negrita” is used in many Latino cultures as a term of endearment, kind of like the word “gorda,” which doesn’t equate to “fat,” but “cutie.” Or “mama,” which can be even used on small children in place of “honey.”

“I don’t like JLo She’s just a wanna be black girl that can hit a two step. She’s an All Lives Matter supporter and now she’s calling herself a ‘black girl from the Bronx.’ idk why she still makes music my dog has better vocal agility than her. Just no.”

‘Just no’: JLo just dropped a song with Maluma. It didn’t go over well with everyone

My mother called me negrito all the time and it was the sweetest meltiest thing. I knew it was not full of malice because her heart thumped whenever she said it and if that's fake I'm outta here. Black people are so persistent that the word is an abomination that they only use it only to humiliate their own, sell some records or control all sexual situations. For latinos it means lots of celebrations with hugs, kisses, talent, sex and loud music. It's our culture and no one outside of us needs to question it. We have our own customs and our own rights. 21-Oct-2020

These 4 Halloween Candies Are the Worst—But These 15 Are Healthier for You

Okay, so you might be too old to go trick-or-treating now, but Halloween season does mean Halloween candy time. Bonus points if you have a kid or know a kid you can "borrow" some Snickers or Kit Kats from. Candy can be found everywhere this time of year—if you go over to a friend's house, they might have a bowl of fun-sized candy bars, or you might find some in your office (thanks, HR). And if you're really smart about buying candy, you'll be at your local drugstore for discounted candies on November 1 (I know I will be!). Bottom line, you're probably going to be tempted with a lot of sweet treats, so how can you indulge while making sure you're not screwing with your healthy eating plan?

The answer: Let yourself live a little. According to integrative dietitian nutritionist Robin Foroutan, MD, RDN, HHC, a spokesperson for the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics, "The best Halloween candy to eat is the one that you love the most!" She continues, "Eat it slowly—enjoy the smell, the flavor, and texture—really savor it so that you get maximum enjoyment. "However, she does caution all you candy lovers to eat a healthy snack before heading to a party so you make better choices once you get there. And if there's one special treat you can't wait to eat every year on Halloween, go for it and move on. "Remember," she says, "one meal at a party or one day of eating a bit of candy is not going to ruin your health. Do your best, get the healthy foods and exercise in, and enjoy."

Man Allegedly Yelled ‘Black Lives Don’t Matter’ Before Breaking Black Teen’s Jaw With Bike Chain

A Michigan man who allegedly yelled “Black lives don’t matter” before breaking a Black teen’s jaw with a bike chain has been charged with committing a hate crime.

Lee Mouat, 42, was walking with his family at a public beach in Monroe, Michigan on June 6 when he allegedly started complaining loudly about the music a group of Black teens was playing, according to a criminal complaint affidavit uploaded Tuesday by the U.S. Justice Department.

Mouat, who is white, allegedly commented on the teens’ “gang music” and referred to the three young men as “n-----s” and “monsters,” according to one witness.

“I wish somebody would say something to me so I can beat them,” the witness recalled Mouat saying, according to the affidavit.

My Partner Thinks I’m a Monster for Getting My Building’s Maintenance Workers Fired

I live in a huge apartment complex with about 500 tenants. I happen to live on the back side of the complex, with a window facing the dumpster in the alleyway. Many of the maintenance workers hang out in that alley when they’re not working. I’ve been working from home for six months now, meaning I spend way more time overhearing their conversations than I used to. They probably spend three to four hours a day just shooting the breeze. They laugh loudly, speak at a way higher volume than necessary, and tell an endless number of sexist jokes in Spanish (I speak Spanish fluently so I can understand every word). I hate having to listen to sexist vitriol for literally hours every day. I’ve tried headphones and a white noise machine but neither block out the sound.

I finally gave up and emailed management. Three of the guys were fired. They have been replaced with workers who spend significantly less time joking and hanging out in the back alley. I view this as a win: I don’t have to be subjected to this for hours every day, and the guys learned a valuable lesson about not going on sexist rants at work. My partner, on the other hand, is angry at me. They say I should’ve just talked to the men myself (which seems naïve, considering they clearly hate women) or, in my email to the complex, asked for the men not to be fired. I disagree. All I did was speak up about an issue that affected me—it’s not my responsibility how the complex chooses to handle it. My partner is basically saying I’m a monster for getting blue-collar workers fired. We cannot seem to move past this issue. Did I do the right thing? What can I do now to get my partner and I past this difference of opinion?

Hawaii to stop using online program after parent complaints

Hawaii’s public schools will stop using a distance learning program after parents complained about racist and sexist content.

The state Department of Education completed a review of Acellus Learning Accelerator and reviewers recommended discontinuing its use as a primary curriculum resource “due to its inconsistency in quality and rigor,” Superintendent Christina Kishimoto said in a letter to parents on Monday.

The department “recognizes the curriculum does contain content that reviewers found acceptable and aligned to standards, and will be working with schools that use Acellus to identify and leverage such content, as appropriate,” the letter said.

Parental complaints have prompted schools in other states to drop the program.

10-Year-Old Black Boy's Arm Badly Broken in Alleged Racist Attack by Children

A ten-year-old Black boy had his arm broken in two places during a racist attack by children, it has been claimed.

The child, who has not been named, is understood to have been out riding his bike with a friend in the eastern Ontario village of Russell, Canada, when they passed two white boys their age—one of who allegedly called the boy the N-word.

Donald Glover doesn’t want to label his sexuality

Donald Glover says he felt “weird” for not wanting to label his sexuality.

“Instead of being like, “Man, I really don’t know…” Most of my college years were me being like, “I don’t know what I like.” I had friends who asked, “Are you gay?” And I’d be like, “I sort of feel like I am because I love this community.”

“You know? But maybe I’m not? And I always was trying to figure out, “Am I weird for not wanting to label it?” Yet, also, I never felt completely safe in just one place.”

When asked by Coel, “In what way did you not feel safe?” the Community star responded: “One time I was really close with this guy – a white guy. I was like, “Oh, man, this guy’s my friend.” And then one day we went to the mall and some black kids ragged on his shorts.

“He turned to me and said, “There are black people and then there are n*****s.” My brain, my heart… It was really intense, so I go home and I tell my dad.

Why Ibram Kendi Is Facing a Backlash Over a Tweet About Amy Coney Barrett's Adopted Haitian Children

Barrett, a white woman, is the mother to seven children—including two Black children she and her husband adopted from Haiti. Some commentators, such as right-wing pundit Candace Owens, had suggested that this signifies she cannot be accused of being racist. Kendi argued, however, that adopting Black children does not necessarily mean a person is not racist, although he also did not call Barrett racist.

"Some White colonizers 'adopted' Black children. They 'civilized' these 'savage' children in the 'superior' ways of White people, while using them as props in their lifelong pictures of denial, while cutting the biological parents of these children out of the picture of humanity," Kendi, a professor of humanities at Boston University, tweeted on Saturday.

Italians divided over whether Black man’s beating death was motivated by racism

Willy Monteiro Duarte was born in Rome to parents from Cape Verde. He had just become an Italian citizen, and at 21 years old, was an aspiring chef at a hotel in a town near Rome.

All of that ended on Sept. 6 when he tried to break up a fight — and instead was beaten to death himself.

“Fascism in Italy has this history of the cult of the male body, of the strong body, of the strong myth of Rome that ruled the world and so on — a myth of domination,” said Marcello Maneri, an assistant professor of sociology at the University of Milan Bicocca who studies race and power.

“These people [the two brothers] acted like they owned the community," he said. “They wanted to patrol their territory. In the end, I think when they saw this Black guy, they thought, ‘We are the people who must control this territory, not him.’”

A Neighbour Went on a Racist Tirade Over Mural Painted on Family's Garage

A Toronto-area mom received an anonymous note accusing her of making her neighbourhood “ghetto” because she had a mural painted on her garage door.

Earlier this week, Sapna Shah, who lives in South Etobicoke, said on Facebook she received a “nasty message” in response to the mural, which shows rolling golden hills and some constellations.

Shah posted the note, which said (in all caps), “You just devalued all of the homes in this area with that hideous graffiti at the front of your house. It has made the entire neighbourhood look like a low income ghetto.”

“Every visitor we have will now have to drive by that shit on the way to us like they’re driving through the hood,” the note said.

A Dallas school assignment asked students to write about a modern-day hero. The Kenosha shooter was among the choices

The two-part assignment was given to seniors in an English class at W.T. White High School, the Dallas Independent School District (ISD) confirmed to CNN.

The first part of the assignment asked students to write a half-page biography for six people, among them 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse.

The others on the list were Mahatma Gandhi, Cesar Chavez, Malcolm X, George Floyd and Joseph Rosenbaum, one of the victims of the Kenosha shooting. The names of Gandhi and Malcolm X were misspelled, according to a photo of the assignment obtained by CNN affiliate KTVT.

In the second part of the assignment, students were then asked to write a one-page essay on which of those six people they believed best demonstrated the concept of a hero.

‘Cuties’ Financier Argues ‘Ultra-Conservatism’ Is Threatening ‘Freedom of Expression’ (EXCLUSIVE)

Netflix’s “Cuties” may be receiving a torrent of backlash out of North America, but France’s film industry is standing in support of Maimouna Doucouré’s feature debut. On Tuesday, the country’s authors, directors and producers guild, La Société civile des Auteurs Réalisateurs et Producteurs, known as ARP, said calls for the film’s boycott are a “grave attack on freedom of creation” carried on by the “most conservative of Americans.”

A campaign waged against Netflix over “Cuties” and the film’s sexualized portrayal of children produced a surge in U.S. subscription cancellations over the weekend, according to research company YipitData, and the Council on American-Islamic Relations out of Washington, D.C., is the latest org to call on the streaming giant to pull the film due to, it claims, a stereotypical portrayal of Muslims.

In France, the film was released on Aug. 19 without any restrictions and was considered suitable for all audiences. It triggered some debate, but not any backlash. We received unanimous praise in the local press, from L’Humanité to Le Figaro, Telerama and Le Monde. We want people to watch the film and realize it’s about many issues: It’s about being Black and living in France, in a society dominated by white people; it’s about being a woman; it’s about the identity conflict that a child can feel between a traditional, conservative upbringing and everyday life at school. Twerking is a small part of the movie. (The film is rated TV MA — Mature Audiences by Netflix in the U.S.).

Florida city repeals 13-year ban on saggy pants

After 13 years, a South Florida city has overturned a ban on “saggy pants” — bottoms that reveal the wearer's underwear.

The Opa-locka City Commission voted Wednesday on a 4-1 vote to repeal both the original 2007 legislation and a 2013 ordinance that said women, not just men, could receive civil citations for wearing pants that exposed their undergarments.

Wild video shows plane passenger punch woman in alleged racial attack

A British passenger was not exactly taking it easy on an EasyJet flight, where he was caught in shocking video throwing a punch at a fellow flier in a racially charged incident, according to a report.

In the expletive-laden footage, the man erupts in fury and throws a punch as he lunges over a seat after a woman can be heard saying, ‘I am African. Do not chat s— about my people,” The Sun reported.

Other passengers claimed the woman was defending a friend whom the brute had racially abused earlier on the flight from London to Antalya, Turkey, on Tuesday.
