A Dallas school assignment asked students to write about a modern-day hero. The Kenosha shooter was among the choices

The two-part assignment was given to seniors in an English class at W.T. White High School, the Dallas Independent School District (ISD) confirmed to CNN.

The first part of the assignment asked students to write a half-page biography for six people, among them 17-year-old Kyle Rittenhouse.

The others on the list were Mahatma Gandhi, Cesar Chavez, Malcolm X, George Floyd and Joseph Rosenbaum, one of the victims of the Kenosha shooting. The names of Gandhi and Malcolm X were misspelled, according to a photo of the assignment obtained by CNN affiliate KTVT.

In the second part of the assignment, students were then asked to write a one-page essay on which of those six people they believed best demonstrated the concept of a hero.

Wild video shows plane passenger punch woman in alleged racial attack

A British passenger was not exactly taking it easy on an EasyJet flight, where he was caught in shocking video throwing a punch at a fellow flier in a racially charged incident, according to a report.

In the expletive-laden footage, the man erupts in fury and throws a punch as he lunges over a seat after a woman can be heard saying, ‘I am African. Do not chat s— about my people,” The Sun reported.

Other passengers claimed the woman was defending a friend whom the brute had racially abused earlier on the flight from London to Antalya, Turkey, on Tuesday.

Popeyes worker is fired after San Antonio cop claims he SPAT in his food, yelled 'All cops are b*****ds' (blockheads?) and wrote 'ACAB' on his meal box

A Popeyes employee has been fired after a cop in Texas claimed his food had been tampered with.

According to the San Antonio Police Department Officer A. Martinez said he heard the fast food restaurant worker making derogatory remarks about members of law enforcement while getting his meal of chicken, mashed potatoes and gravy at the drive-thru.

The cop claims that he had already begun to eat the meal then saw 'ACAB' – an abbreviation for 'all cop are b*****ds' - written inside in black marker and noticed what looked like saliva on his food.

My Mother-in-Law Told My 12-Year Old to Lose Weight and “Fix” Her Face

Dear Care and Feeding,

I am white, and my husband is Korean. We have two daughters who are 12 and 15. My husband and I both come from big families, but his is tighter-knit than mine, and they all live close by. Of his four siblings, three have kids, and our daughters are close with their cousins.

We had a socially distanced family picnic, and when we were saying goodbye, my mother-in-law started commenting on how nice our older daughter looked. But then, she started telling my younger daughter that she needed to start losing weight if she wanted to look like her sister, and if she was in Korea, she would have taken her to get her eyelids and nose “fixed” much earlier “because when you do it now it won’t look as natural.”

My younger daughter was mortified, and my older daughter didn’t even say anything! I was shocked and tried to bring it up in the car, but my older daughter just said it was “how Grandma always was” and my younger daughter didn’t say anything. When we tried to talk to her about it at home, she said the same thing, that she was just old. We are both very angry at my mother-in-law, and are worried about how this impacted our daughters’ self-esteem. What can we do to get them to open up, and how can we confront Grandma?

Black People Believe Racial Hiring Discrimination Exists Where They Work. White People Disagree.

When pressed, many Americans will acknowledge what research has proven to be true: The hiring system is broken, and white people have a historic, systemic advantage over other races when it comes to getting a job.

In a new HuffPost/YouGov poll conducted this August of 1,000 U.S. adults, almost half said that people of color are treated less fairly than white people during the hiring process in the U.S. Seventy-nine percent of Black Americans and 69% of Latinx Americans said that racial employment discrimination was at least somewhat of a serious problem in the United States. (HuffPost/YouGov did not highlight results for Asian respondents due to small sample sizes.)

Hiring discrimination can be especially insidious, because candidates rarely get insight into what recruiters and hiring managers are thinking. A person may never find out why exactly a given company never called them back, but that doesn’t mean discrimination is not occurring.

“I was once told that my long hair and beard had to go and that I must state that I was a Christian.” — multiracial man, 64

Mother Denied Service Because Of Her Son’s ‘Athletic’ Clothes Hires Civil Rights Attorney

Following the apology by a Baltimore restaurant, after the manager refused service to a Black woman, Marcia Grant, and her son, Dallas, because of his “athletic” clothes, the mother has retained a civil rights attorney.

Grant and her spokesperson, Michelle Watts, told TMZ that the apology was not sufficient given the longstanding practices of discrimination at other restaraunt’s owned by Atlas Restaraunt Group.

How Black Lives Matter Is Challenging India’s Obsession With Fair Skin

Skin-lightening brand Fair & Lovely, which earned more than $500 million in sales in India last year, announced on June 25 that it would be removing the word "fair" from its products.

For decades, Indian advertisers have propagated an association between skin fairness with career success, beauty, and social status. In 1975, Fair & Lovely was one of the first brands to monetize India's societal desire for light skin by turning it into a beauty product.

Now, this brand which has spent 45 years building itself into a household name with skin-whitening face creams, is trying to revamp its identity.
