Big Sick, The (2017) Howl

Its not outrageous in comedy but its perceptive in family relations and love. It argues stereotypes, parenting and choices convincingly and it presents the actors amiably. Kumail Nanjiani espouses his culture with nods to old traditions while embarking on new ones as an American. Zoe Kazan demonstrates love with a minimum drop of physicality and Ray Romano splatters all the isms that make him classic. 01-Aug-2018

A Raisin In The Sun (1961) Full Moon

Our predecessors left us an honest slice of life art to authenticate their struggles and to cultivate resolution for their successors. The players are fierce and representative, the writing/directing excels in depiction and respect and the past allows us to retrospect and opine our future. Respect. 31-May-2018

Baby Doll (1956) Howl

Baby Doll is not a child but a 19 year old bride to a man who bought her. Her only power is sex and her unwillingness to depart with it until her 20th b'day. A battle ensues between men that present her with the opportunity to dish it to the highest bidder.

Tennessee creates strong women whose vulnerability lies with the man who takes it. Baby Doll grows up but the system is incapable of providing her self sufficiency.

Williams is still a master of blatant provocation as Kazan is compelled to art.

Baker is raw talent with Grade A movie star presence. Wallach is gripped masher. Karl Malden plays the husband like the insecure man who has to buy love in a very expensive world. Mildred Dunnock's character power is stupidity because if the men notice her they'd be displeased. Ms. Dunnock is given a moment to showcase and she doesn't disappoint. I felt the burnout.

Like all big dick contests, one cock wins, it spirals into violence as white man burdens the town with his privilege.

The author decided not to cap it with a conclusion because we get to decide it.

I was watching a part of history that is no longer applicable because the men in our present, would like to revert to that.

It (2017) Full Moon

Horror poetic. Andy Muscietti ventilates the most innocent of the Spielberg world and desecrates it with fierce jumps and verity. Its the King novel I read, plus. The kids are all M&Ms, because you can't distinguish one. They're all diverse, sweet and empowered. Sophia Ellis boasts star-face. Eerie "New World Order" parents make a return to the King world and they are spine-chilling. The "R" places the scares where no one has dared and it's creativity challenges every future fright to relentlessly throttle. It brings commotion back to film.

Skarsgard digs deep, past unholy and comfortable to create a most stunning and eventful monster. 17-Sep-2017

Little Foxes, The (1941) Howl

Atmospheric, rigorous and contentious. Bette is shatterproof porcelain doll perfection, commandeering the self-destructive avarice of southern family dysfunction. It becomes art when Wyler treats us to a camera hold on Ms. Davis as her husband struggles and she ponders without a blink. Brava.

Ethnicity is represented as it existed in history and the limitations of its time. You have to understand that even though they are not the story, they have a voice because real black actors put a soul to it and they opened the doors for the equality we lost. I'd rather appreciate their contribution than erase them from history. 29-Aug-2017

Corn Is Green, The (1945) Howl

It may be dated but it does not make the story less remarkable. Being at the forefront of creating community is arduous but when its successful, accomplished. Bette is energized feminism restrained by propriety as most of the support supply warmth and local color. That all must sacrifice to complete one man's success is virtuous but sadly, not of this time. 21-Apr-2017

Catered Affair, The (1956) Full Moon

It takes a few scenes before you get accustomed to Bette's accent but once it happens you are converted and transported by an actress who rarely took anything for granted and whose talent was just as big as her persona. Debbie Reynolds sparkles beautifully as the conflicted daughter and Borgnine epitomizes the tired working man of his era. The script keeps the action minimal and the truth scathing whilst Richard Brooks gives us the setting then points his camera towards the actors who make the story gust. It has become a past delicacy that is now a new favorite. 24-Mar-2017

A Streetcar Named Desire (1951) Full Moon

Brando's Stanley Kowalski is an untamed, searing bully breeder. Leigh's Blanche DuBois is multiplex in drag and as breakable as a once fine tea cup that life has chipped at unflinchingly. Somehow the great Tennessee Williams pits them in a dogfight for alphadom and what ensues is not naturalistically pretty but brutally honest as everyone reaches the pinnacle of high art. Kim Hunter plays the sometimes understanding sister and almost always faithful wife of the sexist brute that created her G spot and Karl Malden portrays Mitch as a lonely and desperate sad sack whose sickly and overbearing mother has sheltered him from the tricks Blanche employs to entrap him. These two are the yes men who are the observers and recipients of the fight the two brass are sanctioning to the death. Kazan masterpiece. 06-Feb-2017

Letter, The (1940) Full Moon

The simplest of plots, a letter may or may not incriminate you is the basis for a movie that's short on investigation but high on character exposition. Wyler emblazons the screen with exotic culture, vaporous corners and custom support in almost every division. Bette enriches the screen with acting that opens questionably then upsurges as guile and rectitude try to intermingle. Her eyes convey acuity and Davis is top notch acting class snatch. What actor wouldn't want to steal that. Gale Sondergaard as the Eurasian widow is hushed, extreme and imposingly beautiful. There aren't many actors that can slay and convey with such restraint. 09-Nov-2016

Velveteen Rabbit, The (2009) Woof

You'd have to be inept to fuck up this story. The tale wrenches as much as it transports. This interpretation has a venerated stamp by its maker whose take is constrained because the animate and the live do not harmonize. There was limited technology then to create an uninterrupted universe where a boy and his toys can fabricate a dreamworld, so we must forgive the disconnect. Everything laid out is virtuous and dulcet. We shall await new tech and a choice auteur to give us what the classic has already laid out. 25-Oct-2016

Bridge on the River Kwai (1957) Full Moon

Nations start wars in which they send valiant men into battle wherein they have to fight lesser men with herculean egos as well as their own. The best war pictures are the ones that can find the humanity in every fighter and respect in all their stories. It's beautifully laid out, played and executed. 11-Jul-2016

Pinky (1949) Full Moon

It is so refreshing to see adults talking knowingly and developed. The primary player being white playing light skinned black, doesn't deter the virtue of the chronicle or the intentions of the filmmakers. No actor collides with the material but its the tenacity and grace of the women that propels the sentiment and the struggle. Ethel Barrymore liquidates the competition with a nod and a tone, Ethel Waters is a naturally spiritual and impassioned grandmother, Evelyn Varden with her incredulous wit lashes and recompenses the suffering and finally, Jeanne Crain is brave and skilled enough to embody and respect her character's plight against racism and sexism while reserving her white privilege. There are no fraudulent arguments in a world so far ago where people were aware of how demeaning and damaging they could be to others but never caused much change to obliterate it. I left thinking that racism exists in order so that the opportunistic can lay blame on others to continue to unleash sins towards mankind without reparation. 01-Jul-2016

Justice League: Flashpoint Paradox (2013) Howl

The respect for character development in a shorter amount of time than a live film is admirable. Spinning the mythology in a different direction is tricky but well worth the challenge. Loads of creativity and fun art abounds as every superhero gets a turn to display their largess in evocative style. 18-Jun-2016

Spotlight (2015) Howl

What happens when costumed perverts are adorned and safely hidden in iron castles that ignorant parents insist is a safe habitat for their children because God lives there. The movie earnestly tries to convey the abominations, the injustice and the superpower that no one group in America should wield as well as the voice of the victims and adults whose ordeal was religiously ignored by everyone. No actor oversteps the material but each strengthen it with their endowments. It's sad that many people dismissed the film because they'd prefer not to see that the indestructibility comes not from God but favors and sins. As much as they try to say different, no one really acts on the care about children. 29-May-2016
